About us

This beautiful grade II listed 1850s hotel is family run, offering a warm Dales welcome, locally-sourced real ale and bar food. The restaurant offers a Sunday carvery and à la carte for a special meal out.

Our 14 comfortable bedrooms are all en suite, and most are large enough for families. There is also a function room available for special events such as an engagement party, birthday, or christening. All of our rooms and the bar are dog friendly and have free wifi.

Booked last minute for a meal for 6 people for friends birthday. Faultless,food gorgeous, good portions. Desserts to die for Lovely friendly staff. Highly recommended

Really disappointed. Had drinks and despite being in for 6pm, no one took order until 40mins later. Food arrived another 40 mins later (7.20pm). Then sweet took 40 mins. Plenty of staff, last table in eating. Sweet was dry and not edible as sauce not available. Still charged full price! Staff unapologetic and basically just wanted you gone! Went to chip shop on way home.

The best pub in Leyburn! The food was amazing - great chef (we had steaks, the Golden Lion Burger and the Mediterranean Tartlet (vegan option) which were all delicious). The service was also great - Debbie, Dave and all of the bar staff are very friendly and welcoming as are the locals. We enjoyed going in for a drink at night (the Kronenbourg is very fresh and they also have Peroni, Foster’s and Guinness on draught). We would recommend The Golden Lion for a proper Yorkshire welcome :)

Stayed at this hotel recently and it was great.The room was lovely with a comfortable bed,hot powerful shower,tea and coffee in room and a great view of the market place.We parked for free in the market place car park which was very busy.We didn't try the food on an evening but the breakfast was beautiful and plentiful.Very friendly service from all the people who work here and I can imagine on a warm day that the outside seated area would be very busy. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel and will have no hesitation in booking again when we next visit leyburn.

Really enjoyed a tasty meal at the Golden Lion. The place was friendly and the staff were helpful. We hadn't booked but they managed to squeeze us in with a bit of table juggling. The ferryman's platter was delicious, highly recommended and the lasagne was tasty and cheesy. I asked for no garlic bread but extra salad and what I got was very good. Meal service stops around 8 so make sure you book. Traditional menu and fair prices. Wine by the glass comes in miniature bottles but not expensive. Definitely worth a visit.
