About us

Welcome to The Fleece, Hillesley. We hope you will be delighted with our quintessential Cotswold pub. Our commitment to our customers is first and foremost and as a team we strive to ensure that your experience here will be the best possible.

An inclusive Pu

Our aim is to offer an inclusive and friendly environment to both our local community and visitors’ further afield. Whilst we welcome families we kindly request that children are supervised and respectful of the pub environment.

Your four legged friends are welcome too – fresh water and dog treats are always on tap. We require dogs to be kept on a lead and clear of walkways so as not to a cause a trip hazard to other customers. We do not allow dogs in the restaurant areas.

We are fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful countryside with the Cotswold Way just minutes from our doorstep. Walkers are kindly requested to leave muddy boots outside or in the porch.

Food and Drink

Our passion for Real Ale sits high on our priority list and is a strong contributing factor to winning the Dursley and District CAMRA pub of the year 2018 that was announced just 15 months into running the business - not a bad accolade!

We have up to seven Real Ales available at any one time and amongst the line up are our regulars: The Wye Valley Brewery’s, Butty Bach (Welsh for ‘little friend’) and Sharps Atlantic. The remaining line up showcases some of the best ales from around the UK and we actively encourage customers to sample them – or even try a Paddle of 3 Thirds.

Our passion extends into all aspects of our products: our wines are carefully chosen to cater for every palate and whilst our range of Gin and Vodka includes brand favourites, we also stock a selection of smaller bespoke distilleries such as Cotswold Gin. Even our Non alcoholic range has something to suit all tastes - young and old: non drinkers and drivers will appreciate the more grown up flavours such as Hot Ginger Beer or Kiwi Lime and Mint; we also reckon to have found one of the best non alcoholic beers – ever!

With drinks comes food and we want you to enjoy our menu. We aim to deliver tasty pub food at reasonable prices, sourced locally where possible and from the best food producers’ money can buy. We do not want to be a ‘Gastro Pub’ – we are a pub with strong community values that serves great pub food – consistently!

A brief History

Like many other village pubs up and down the country The Fleece was originally owned by a Pub Co that went into administration in 2011. The vibe of the village was noticeably altered; some felt quite bereft at the closure. So the local community formed HCPL (Hillesley Community Pub Ltd) and bought the Freehold.

In July 2012 The Fleece Inn re-opened as a Community Pub and although the concept worked initially, the pub started to falter and was on a downward spiral. HCPL decided that the format wasn’t working and the best course of action would be to lease the business.

Rod Undy has built the pub up to a very high standard and Mykel and Rebecca Cameron took over as Landlords 1st September 2021, and here we are today!.

We are visitors to this lovely part of the country and so, so lucky to come across this wonderful community pub in the small village of Hillesley. The range of beers was excellent; well kept and poured. Despite being very busy on Christmas Eve we visitors were made very welcome and the young staff could not have been more helpful. Big shout for the locally made pork pies too!

Always pop in here after metal detecting locally, good food, reasonable prices, 5-6 real ales some local ones like Uley, friendly service and good sausage rolls you can take away. Nice garden area when it’s sunny.

Could actually do with engaging the users. No smile no conversation. The bar who was on before 5pm last Wednesday was a complete atmosphere hoover. I know the status of the pub and I worked there in the late 1980’s. More interested in the villager than passing trade
