Rolling green countryside forms a stunning backdrop to our honey-hued Grade II listed Georgian inn nestled in the small and pretty village of Bourton-on-the-Hill.
From the Cotswold stone interior walls and exposed beams to the roaring log fires and mismatched furniture, our pub exudes warmth, comfort and character. In our garden there’s a small fruit and vegetable patch where we grow some of the ingredients used in our menu of country-fresh dishes. Sip on a pint of local ale while you watch the world go by at a slower pace, or settle into one of our intimate dining spaces for your evening meal. Then spend the night in one of eight sumptuous en-suite guest rooms.
We are located in the North Cotswolds, within easy striking distance of some of the region’s prettiest villages — Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden, Broadway and Stow-on-the-Wold — making us the perfect base for exploring the local countryside. There are walks aplenty, and lots of wonderful heritage buildings and gardens to discover, too, including the country’s biggest private collection of trees just a short walk from our front door.
We had a superb family lunch here on Boxing Day. We were a large party of 21 (ranging in ages from 4 to 82). Nothing was too much trouble; the staff were warm, welcoming and extremely accommodating (special shout out to Pip), the food and drink was plentiful and delicious. We all had a brilliant time - THANK YOU - we look forward to returning!
Had a wonderful group dining experience at the Horse and Groom. Lukas, Pip and their team were fantastic - so accommodating, all the food came out on time and was delicious. Thank you for giving our group a wonderful pub dinner!
Had birthday lunch for a friend at the Horse and Groom. Sunday roast was delicious! Just the right size and full of yummy stuff. Desserts were also lovely. Great service from the team there. Lovely pub in lovely location. Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay there, but highly recommend the pub food and ambience!
Went for Sunday lunch and the meal was absolutely terrible. Bread sauce was out of a packet, no crackling with the pork, service was poor and they did not make things better once we raise our concern with the food. Beef was over cooked and roast potatoes were soggy. Food needs to be improved dramatically. Such a shame as it’s a lovely pub / location but the food leaves much to be desired.
Our first visit to this lovely pub. We were pleasantly surprised by the cosy, yet spacious interior. We were made to feel welcome, and whilst I would say they appeared slightly short on front of house staff, the staff who did serve us were friendly and efficient, albeit seemingly in a bit of a rush to get round everyone. The menu choice is great and something for everyone. The food came out efficiently and was delicious. Overall, a lovely evening meal. We hope to visit again soon!
