About us

Welcome to the Lower Lode, the pub for every occasion

A Traditional Public House dating back to the 15th Century, the Lower Lode is set in a picturesque location on the banks of the River Severn, not far from the historic medieval town of Tewkesbury.

Serving fine locally sourced traditional pub fayre and Camra accredited real ales and ciders, our family run traditional pub has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Our Inn offers a riverside beer garden with extensive garden seating, also a games room with pool table and jukebox.

The perfect venue for wedding ceremonies/receptions, birthday/anniversary celebrations and vehicle rallies, we offer a purpose built function room with a bar and facilities for outside catering.

Our main pub area is wheelchair friendly, we have plenty of on site parking and we welcome dogs!.

We loved our visit to this pub and had a swim in the river, which was amazing although a few people had said it was too polluted these days. We took appropriate precautions like not swallowing it and showering in the campsite makeshift showers immediately afterwards. The interior of the pub was interesting and quirky although we called during the recent heatwave so everyone was outdoors on benches overlooking the river. You do need to watch out for the swans. The food was basic but inexpensive. Definitely worth a visit. We walked from Tewkesbury mainly along the river.

Really great pub , I didn’t stay so can’t rate the rooms . Staff very welcoming to my dog .I had the jacket potato and although nice , I would have liked more of the home made chilli con carne and cheese . What I had as a topping tasted good but there needed enough to cover the potato .

Superb historic pub offering accommodation, real ales, ciders and home cooked food. It is a destination pub as there are no other venues nearby. Options for camping and caravan stays are also available. Try it once and you'll go back!

Can imagine this is a beautiful place to sit outside on a sunny day. The building itself is beautiful and the staff very friendly. In general, it was clean and comfortable with stunning views over the river. Not sure if it was because if we were with a motorbike meet, but there were shared spoons for dealing with cups of tea and coffee...which I really didn't like. The food was good...decent portions and wholesome, but nothing special (pre made (?) side salad was quite hard to eat and a bit wilted) Husband really enjoyed the pie and the chips were realltly nice, despite looking a bit underdone 🥧😋 Sticky toffee pudding was too hard underneath but tasted lovely.

Didn't stay in a room, so I can't comment, but if the rest of our visit is anything to go by, they'll be awesome, we were there for a Barfly motorcycle rally, stayed in the campsite behind the pub, Lower Lode staff were friendly, despite being rushed off their feet at times, evening meals were excellent, reasonably priced. Breakfast was really good, bit steep at 9quid but tasty, excellent selection of ales and ciders, don't know what the lagers were like no one in our group drank them. Would definitely recommend staying here, camping available as well as rooms.
