About us

Welcome to Hamfields Leisure

Welcome to Hamfields Leisure formerly Berkeley Power Station Social Club (NSSC).

Berkeley Nuclear Power station opened in 1962 & closed n 1989. It was the first commercial nuclear power station of its type in the world to have ever have been closed down.

Berkeley Nuclear Sports & Social Club (NSSC), was opened on the 16th January 1976 & previously managed by Magnox Power Station.

The Sports and Social club was faced with closure in 2006 but the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) did approach the club committee with a proposal that if they produced a viable business plan they would lease them the land and buildings. Since then members of the new Berkeley Community Sport and Leisure Trust have been working hard to put together a management team and finally agreed a 30-year lease that became active in April 2009.

Hamfields Leisure was then the new name given by the Trustees to this wonderful site.

The "Club" is open to everyone to use the leisure facilities which include lots of outside facilities including football pitches, tennis courts, a cricket pitch & outside seating areas, along with two play areas for children. Inside we have a huge Sports & Entertainment Hall where you can play Pool or table tennis. There is a stage for events, music, cabaret which can be hired.

We have a bar & two lounges serving an excellent range of competitively priced Real Ales, Ciders, Lagers, Wine, Prosecco & Spirits.

We have a lovely skittle alley used by many teams. Upstairs we have a Snooker room (Members Only), a Restaurant area & balcony with seating for functions & shows etc.

Friday Nights (fortnightly)

We have Live Music along with our Friday Fryday hot food menu served in a basket. See our Friday Menu page.

Attended Hamfield Leisure tonight Friday 8th April 22. The night started with singer Dave Cain. Good strong voice belting out some real favourites. I felt the atmosphere could have been helped by some muted lighting and maybe some disco type lights to get everyone in the mood for some dancing. Just my opinion. Dave was followed by the Peter Kay Tribute act (Simon Mark). I was surprised at just how much he was like the real thing. Both acts were excellent and worth every penny. Would I pay to see them again? Definitely!

Lovely venue with a amazing dance floor. Would love to see some local cover bands such as Rockology performing there.

Just as I remembered, except Annie was missing from the bar! Still has the two snooker tables but no pinball (8 ball deluxe) and no table tennis. Friendly staff. Inexpensive drinks.

Very tired looking but clean. The on tap beers and soft drinks very flat. Male Toilets very smelly.
