About us

Nestling along a cobbled flagstone close, just off Dumfries’ High Street, The Globe Inn, first established in 1610 and Robert Burns’ favourite Howff, combines rich and passionate history with a stunning and sympathetically refurbished restaurant, bar, private dining room and museum.

The Globe offers a fusion of modern culinary techniques and traditional Scottish ingredients that delivers high quality lunch and dinner menus at fantastic value for money.

Reserve a table in the atmospheric ‘1610 Restaurant’ our main dining room (once the old stables), or choose our stunning Private Dining Room set within the panelled eves of the original hay loft. Whether you want to enjoy a intimate table for two or need a venue for your next business or family function, you can enjoy food of impeccable quality prepared by our Michelin-experienced chefs and enjoyable hospitable service from the front of house team.

The Globe still retains its roots as an inn and you are welcome to simply enjoy a drink at the bar or in the Snug, where you can select a dram from amongst the largest selection of whisky in the region and even try a snifter of Annandale Distillery’s rare, award winning Man O’ Sword and Man O' Words peated & unpeated Single Malts. We also have an interesting selection of unusual cocktails and an extensive list of sensibly-priced quality wines, or be taken on a journey through the history of Gin and Rum.

You can discover the history of Burns and his relationship with The Globe by booking on to one of the tours hosted by Burns’ Howff Club or Burns aficionado Jane Brown who tell passionate tales that will make you laugh and ponder on the stories the walls could tell. You can sit in the famous Poets Chair, if you can recite a verse of the Bard’s poetry, visit his bed chamber, kitchen and dining room, read the diamond etched verses scribed on the windowpane by his very own hand, and marvel at the various rare artefacts proudly displayed.

We ate Lunch at the Globe on the 28th of December 2023 in the snug due to our canine company. The food was amazing and we were treated to amuse bouche and other small additions throughout our meal. Exeptional. The Globe's management are dettermined that that they will earn a michelin star, as we were informed by the Maître d' on arrival. The quality of the food and service profess to that desire. Just 2 suggestions. As Maître d' it is not a good look to become involved in an public arguement with customers, no matter how wrong the customer is. Secondly. The Snug is part of the public space it is not a place where the medical needs of staff should be discussed with them. Take those discussions in to the back. Nevertheless, these are small matters. All in all we had a fantastic meal and look forward to returning, star or not.

Hadn't been in The Globe for 3 decades, but had a fantastic meal here on Saturday. Opened in 1610, this old Inn was a favourite of Rabbie Burns in the late 1700s, with plenty of paintings and memorabilia. Great selection of beers and wines, an extensive list of malts, and excellent food and service. Will be back soon!

Outstanding food with fabulous presentation. Lovely staff who deliver top class service. Dined here numerous times and it's consistently superb with a regular change of menu which has so much effort and skill committed to it. The chef is a culinary wizard. Eaten at numerous top class restaurants and The Globe is definitely up there as one of the best. It's not a cheap place to dine but you really receive great quality in every aspect of your dining experience so we were very satisfied. See you again soon.
