About us

Our story

Here at The George Inn Newnham, our daily goal is to create, serve and enjoy fine fresh food. The George Inn is a very traditional, family run, Shepherd Neame country pub, run by Claire & Dave Elliott with a little help from their girl tribe!

Nestled in the Kent countryside between Sittingbourne and Faversham. Steeped in history, dating back to 1540, The George originally started as a farm building and became a brew house and coaching inn, in 1718. Full of character from old oak beams, hops and inglenook fireplaces.

Beautiful country pub, really well presented and maintained. The new owners have really uplifted the place - it was lovely before - but the attention to detail now is amazing. Had food there yesterday and was the nicest pork belly I've ever had, so soft and tasty. Had a lovely chat with the landlady and it's so easy to see the care being put into the place. Looking forward to going back and enjoying the beer garden in summer.

WOW! Under new management now and what a transformation! We've eaten here quite a few times now and every time we're blown away at how good the food is. And always served so competently by the team with such a friendly, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Honestly cannot fault this place. Great to see it so busy again, there's a real buzz of positivity during service. Plus- great quiz nights! Definitely book in advance.. and in confidence!

Great staff, friendly and efficient service, lovely selection of food and a good wine list too. We were table of 10 and they looked after us very well, accommodating with ease some of our parties dietary restrictions too. .... all wrapped up in a cozy pub atmosphere .. No doubt the positive spirit and energy of the new owners flowed through to the rest of the team.

Lovely pub with amazing food, atmosphere and staff. We have been during the Harry Potter themed dining weekend and the attention to detail was incredible. The children were blown away and it certainly felt magical for all (adults included). The sharing roasts are a real gem on the menu. We've returned a few times and also just attended the Georgefest yesterday. Sam Brother was an amazing Artist and worth turning up just to hear him. The food and drink were spot on. Busy festival but absolutely no idiots ruining the experience! A lovely day and amazing pub/staff. I highly recommend this!

Lovely restaurant. Ample parking, clean toilets, nice outdoor area. Staff are very kind and hard working and will do their best to accommodate your request like extra carrots or to decorate the table for a celebration. We eat as a family of 10, one is hard of hearing, so we request the private room at the front of the building, so incredibly helpful that they will always do their best to accommodate. The food is so good! These are the sharing roast, we had them between 2 for the adults, and between 3 for the kids, everyone was full up. We all love it here
