About us

Nestling beneath the rising fells of Langstrothdale, the inn stands in a stunning location overlooking the infant river Wharfe.

This traditional Dales Inn with flagged floors, stone walls and mullioned windows is the last remaining family owned free house in the parish of Buckden, Upper Wharfedale.

Comfortable accommodation, quality home cooked food, well kept cask beers from Black Sheep and other primarily local breweries together with an excellent selection of wines and Malts are on offer in our unique inn.

The George is centrally located in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is ideal for touring, cycling or walking being directly on one of the most popular of all the walks - the Dales Way.

Well appointed and very comfortable En-suite Accommodation available in our 6 letting bedrooms. We have four rooms located in the main pub building on the first floor and two more rooms in the coach house. Five rooms are en-suite. One of the coach house rooms is located on the ground floor and is more suitable for those who cannot manage steps easily.

Enjoy the beauty of the Dales and then relax in our Traditional and Historic Dales Country Inn, with excellent food and beer and a warm friendly welcoming atmosphere.

We welcome well behaved dogs in the bar and have one dog friendly letting room.

Friendliest pub ever. Ed will remember your names and be addressing you like you a mate visiting his place for a meal. And George the dog is very welcoming too. The fish and chips, so glad it has a smaller plate, huge, batter is freshly made, chips not greasy at all. Been to many pubs all over the country, this one stands out for outstanding service and good food.

Very friendly landlord and cosy rooms. Evening meals were lovely as was the breakfast. The rooms met expectations for a rustic pub in the countryside. The location is very remote with amazing scenery.

Generations of my husband's family are from upper Wharfedale. Always spend time in the Hubberholme church yard. Due to heat decided to drop into the pub. Several pints of local ale and diet coke for me the driver. Good conservation with barman and other holiday makers. Then stopped for tea had the pie chicken and mushroom with vegetables and chips it was a wonderful afternoon

I can't tell you how much I love it here. The location is amazing, the people are fab - especially Ed who is so welcoming and funny. The food is also amazing. If you want to really get away from it all (no signal and not much WiFi, how lovely!) then this is the place for you. We brought our friends for their birthday treat and we all gad a great time. Including the dogs!!!

Visited this pub in April while visiting from Leeds, following a recommendation from somebody more local at another pub. My friends and I were welcomed so exceptionally, and only regret not turning up sooner! Definitely will be popping in again if in the area. Thanks for the hospitality!
