A fascinating gem of an ancient pub/hotel full of charm and character. The service was very good with excellent food and drink. Not ideal for those with disability because of footing and levels but there is flat access to the bar from the car park. It is dog friendly with very nice staff. The car park is small and it is in the centre of the village on roads that can be busy. Some of the hotel rooms are in another pleasant character house over the road from the main building.

A tale of two halves. The food was excellent and the staff absolutely welcoming and wonderful. The building is a photographers delight, very quaint indeed. On the other hand the accommodation was extremely disappointing. A spiral staircase leads to the first floor and somehow you have to get your suitcases up the flight. The room was tiny, and on quite a slope. Everybody talks about recent refurbishment, but the mattress was as old as the hills. Very uncomfortable. The bathroom was small and narrow. Just a tiny shelf, enough for your toothbrush. No room to dry yourself with a towel. Noise transmission between rooms was shocking, very surprising since one imagines the walls to be very thick. P.S. Thanks for your reply Linda regarding the comfort limitations due to the age of the building. Last month we stayed at Convent Square Hotel in Lisbon, built in the 12th Century, well before your pub. Despite retaining priceless historic features and architecture, this palatial hotel is super comfortable with all modern amenities. It can be done. And before you mention price for 5 star luxury, it is less expensive than your pub in January for example.

Had such a great first stay at The George! Rooms were idyllic - the exposed beams and traditional decor were such a lovely touch. It’s the perfect place for a quiet getaway! All staff were friendly and welcoming and spent time making sure we were comfortable and settled in. Will be coming again and recommending!!

We visit The George regularly and have stayed overnight several times over the years. The food is amazing (the most recent visit on 9th). Never had a bad time spent there. The staff are very friendly, and always on hand to answer questions or tend to your needs. We love the history of the place, and the ambience is just so homely. We will definitely be back again, and hope to stay overnight again in the near future

We had a lovely stay at The George for our wedding anniversary. The location is stunning and we were lucky the weather was great the day we arrived so we could enjoy a drink in the garden overlooking the cricket ground with the village church in the background. You could not ask for a more typical English countryside view! The room was nice, clean and had everything we needed. We understood all the pub rooms are to be re-furbished soon so we'll definitely look forward to a return visit to see what they are like. Food in the restaurant was good. There was a good selection of different styles of food without being excessive, which hopefully meant all the ingredients were local and fresh. Service was exceptional from everyone who looked after us. You got the impression that everyone enjoyed working there. I have to make a special mention to Lola, who worked in the dining room in the evening. She was an absolute star and took the experience to the next level which her genuine Italian hospitality. Not just for us, but everyone got five star treatment, whether it was their birthday, entertaining children or just regular couples like us. Can't wait to return.
