The George Inn is located in Devon’s smallest town, Hatherleigh just north of Okehampton.
The inn is famous for its welcoming, homely atmosphere, and in addition to its wide drink selection, it provides great freshly cooked food served by our friendly staff.
Soft modern furnishings complement the traditional and historic building features, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Our menu is constantly evolving offering sharing plates for informal dining and a great range of mains. We take pride in sourcing our produce locally where possible. We are proud of the quality food we offer.
We have 13 delightful ensuite rooms, some of which have four-poster beds and feature baths. One of our rooms is fully accessible for people with disabilities. We look forward to greeting you at The George and will make every effort to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Great room, pleasant staff but my oh my what a shambles. They must be short staffed because although we booked a table there wasn't sufficient staff to operate the restaurant or the bar. I feel so sorry for those that were working. We went to the Tally Ho. Brilliant.
The staff was amazing! The rooms were some of the nicest rooms in our entire trip! We were stuck in a situation with no where to stay and the staff at the George stepped up and helped 3 Canadian women with kindness and respect. Food was absolutely first rate. Hatherleigh is a lovely town and the residents are amazing. We hope to return again and stay longer. The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Everything you could need was supplied!! Thank you.
We stayed here for a friend's wedding down the road. Our room was a wheelchair accessible room (we didn't request this but it wasn't a problem either), nice and big, can be twin or double. We had dinner there, lovely pub grub and huge portions, and breakfast was lovely too, though would have liked to have been offered another tea/coffee but not the end of the world. Would definitely recommend
We think they have a different chef! Usually the food here is excellent but last Tuesday evening we were not impressed. The salt and pepper calamari was dry and tough, obviously overcooked. And the burger was burnt and dry. The Hunters chicken was also dry, overcooked. We were not impressed. Such a shame the food there has always been good in the past. What has changed. Someone on the table opposite had the sausages and mash, they left most of it. Let me know what you think.
My girlfriend and I had an awesome stay here. We arrived on bike - The George is pretty much on the half way point on the coast to coast route and were greeted with a friendly welcome, great pints, nourishing food and clean, smart rooms - we even had a bath to soak away the bumps from the ride. Thank you for having us.
