Sandwiches only? We booked a table for lunch. When we arrived at the restaurant we were initially told there might be some dishes unavailable due to a party of 28 that was in the restaurant. This was at 1200 not at the end of service. Then a woman arrived from the kitchen and informed us quite abruptly that because of the party of 28 they could only provide sandwiches, no hot food. I don't understand how a restaurant with about 50 total covers cannot cope with 28 diners. In addition I would have thought that they were looking to get more customers through the door in January. It would have been different if we had been told when we booked a table.... its not like we walked in off the street, we were expected. Maybe the food is nice, I don't know. Lots of apologies but when I book a table at a restaurant and make a special trip to dine there I don't expect to be offered sandwiches. Can I suggest that if you book a table ask the question "IS IT HOT FOOD OR SANDWICHES ONLY?" That way it saves a wasted journey like ours PS went to The Lodge in North Tuddenham.... amazing food 5 stars! And cooked food not sandwiches!
I can only comment on the food and bar area as we visited for dinner. The bar area is lovely - cosy, traditional bar with very friendly and attentive staff. The menu choice is good, we had the steak and kidney suey pudding with creamy, smooth mash and nicely cooked veg (and LOADS of gravy - perfect). The pudding is great and I've had it twice now! My friends had the lasagne which came with a lovely salad and garlic bread and the hunters chicken which also came with delicious sides. Great choice of desserts too - yes you can eat pudding after pudding. So good I booked for Mother's Day there and then. A real crowd pleaser.
Food is cooked from fresh. Plenty of room to sit and eat. Good customer service. Not too expensive
I attended a Christmas meal last night and i have to say I wasn't impressed the main course was not great the only veg was 3 baby carrots and they were still hard, the 2 pieces of tender stem broccoli was still hard too, It would of been nice if there was extra veg available. The person sitting near me had a prawn cocktail and they used Gin glasses you needed a step ladder to eat it. The who place needs revamping and decorating the ceiling in the dining area had got water damage and it looks like it is going to fall down anytime soon. I don't think I will be returning here anytime soon.
Room was cold, one radiator for big room. When arrived window was open in winter.... we had a family room. Sofa-bed was in bad shape. Seems lots of our issues rated on TripAdvisor and owners don't respond. Breakfast was poor. Flooded with butter on roll. Egg over seasoned. Other guests returned it. Simple breakfast for.3 and we were.only people in there to start. Took over 45 mins to arrive. Only offered 1 hot drink. Carpark dark, no.lighting and in need of repair
