Situated on the bank of the River Tees in the village of Piercebridge near Darlington several of our bedrooms and function rooms have views of the river. Inside the centuries-old building, we have welcoming open fireplaces inside the bar.

We popped into the George in April 23 and have been in love with the place ever since then, we have stayed there 5 times now and travel all the way from Washington to be there, we just love the old historical building, the river garden and not to mention the outstanding food and service they also do an amazing buffet breakfast. The blazing fires and amazing beer are second to none, forgot to mention we like it that much that we have booked our wedding there in 2025, keep up the good work.
This pub is great. Stayed here with our granddaughter. The room was perfect for 3 of us and was very clean. The breakfast was buffet style and plenty of selection. We will certainly be back.
Could not have asked for more, great service and great value. Our room was clean, the bed comfy and with all we needed for our overnight stay, including tea, coffee and water, bathroom miniature’s. We had breakfast included which was excellent quality. The staff were friendly and helpful and honestly I could not fault it. If I was in the area again I wouldn’t hesitate in stopping .
This is a pretty pub/hotel, scenery and area. Staff helpful and friendly. Room good size and clean. We had breakfast included, there was plenty of choice and was nice. Down side: we had room 216, this is a seperate building to the main hotel. The room next door was audible when they were talking, could hear them moving about and we didn't sleep much due to one of them snoring! Take ear plugs.
We had a great stay here, spotlessly clean, delicious breakfasts, friendly staff .. what more can you ask for. And it was so lovely and peaceful sitting by the river with a couple of drinks. Highly recommended, thank you to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable x
