“ULTRA-LOCAL AND SEASONAL MENUS” THE WEEK REVIEW NOV 2022

…The George has had a growing reputation since The Good Food Guide recognised it in 2009 and you can now add the likes of Sawday’s, Harden’s and, indeed, the Michelin Guide to that list. They’re not starred – yet – but earlier this year they installed a young man named Jordan Hemsil, formerly of Adam Reid at The French, as their head chef and, well, we’ll see. Based on a recent dinner, the potential for their frequently ultra-local (within 15 miles) and seasonal menu to get the big nod is certainly there…

Oh I wish we'd found the award winning george sooner , Michelin guide recommended, 3 rosette awarded we went on the current licencees 2nd to last night and it was a fantastic night . Situated in the middle of nowhere in alstonefield the 400 year old george is truly stunning , wooden beams , flooring , huge brick walls , candles chunky wooden tables its like stepping back in time . We went for the 9 course taster menu and it didn't disapoint it was fantastic, all ingredients sourced within 15 miles of the george , the maitake , cracklebean yoke and celeriac was to die for. I wish them all the best in there next venture in Greece its bound to be so successful

I came here with my non foodie husband and he was blown away by it. I was worried he wouldn't enjoy it as it was a set menu but I needn't have been. The flavours in everything set the taste buds tingling and our only regret was not going for the 9 course tasting menu. Who knew cabbage could be so moreish?! Excellent service too and great value too.

I visited The George for their tasting menu in 2021, and since they seem to have done more collaborations and one off evenings, which I can’t wait to attend again! A bit of a trek from Sheffield but worth it for sure. Wonderful food and excellent value for what you get. Definitely a premium dining experience without the premium price tag. Can’t wait to go back again.

We visited Friday and had the tasting menu. Food was phenomenal, atmosphere was fantastic and Graham was a wonderful host. We met a lovely couple and another gentlemen and chatted and laughed the evening away. We loved it so much we drove the hour away to go back for he Sunday roast menu with the children. We were not disappointed! We will be definatley be back again very soon.

Wow wow wow!!! These guys need more recognition. This place is truly a hidden treasure in the heart of the peaks and we are so glad we found it. My partner and I are big foodies so love finding fine dining experiences whenever we travel - and we can hands down say this is up there as one of the top experiences we’ve had. We had the 9 course tasting menu plus the cheese board. Everything about the experience was exquisite. The food was just bloody incredible! Cooked to perfection and served beautifully, but an absolute taste sensation. (I’m just drooling remembering it) I just wanted to eat it all over again it was THAT good. If you’re travelling to the peaks for a staycation book in advance because you will not be disappointed. We also have to give a big thanks to the staff who were not only welcoming and friendly but also attentive. One thing that stood out to us, was how relaxed the atmosphere was here. We’ve been to many fine dining places where it can feel pretentious and stuffy. This is not like that at all. The staff didn’t blink an eye when we literally drank from the bowl and used our fingers to get every last morsel of sauce from the plate because we didn’t want to leave anything. We will hands down be back, and will probably be shouting about this place to all of our friends and family. Fine dining at its absolute best.
