Set above the Welland Valley, with commanding views over the Harringworth Viaduct sits The George & Dragon Country Inn, located in Seaton, about two miles east of Uppingham in the extraordinary county of Rutland
The George & Dragon, is a tradtional, rural pub which not only reflects the simplistic beauty and lifestyle of the surrounding countryside but uses it as an inspiration for its 'raison d'etre'. Once housing the butchers and the bakery, aswell as the inn, the building dates back to 1620 and still serves as the hub for local villages. A heartfelt welcome will always greet you. W hen it's cold outside, keep warm by our fires, while in summer you can enjoy our outdoor seating area. Step away from it all at the George and Dragon, where nothing is too much trouble, a real home away from home.
You'll always find a great selection of real ales and wines, the highest quality homemade food at the right price and a glass of prosecco on hand for when you want to celebrate. Grainstore Brewery 10:50 is always on the pump. We serve the finest mature steaks from Culpins of Uppingham with the probably the best chips in Rutland which can be accompanied by a smooth glass of McQuigans Black Label Merlot. Or try our three course Sunday lunch; a truly delicious family event; you won't be disappointed. Whatever you fancy, we look forward to welcoming you, whether you're having a snack at lunchtime or coming in for a drink with friends in the evening!.
We stayed the night here to break a long drive and glad we did. The bar was so cosy and welcoming just as a country pub should be. Staff were friendly and food for both the evening meal and included breakfast was exceptional. We stayed in a small but modern and very comfortably room behind the main building. As we visited off season B&B rate was low and I would say great value for money. Would certainly recommend this place.
The George and Dragon is our local. The atmosphere in the bar area is very nice. Last Saturday we ate in the restaurant and had an amazing meal. Ever since we have lived here it's been good but last Saturday the bar was raised again.
We really enjoyed our stay! We were in the hare room and it was comfortable. The rooms are above the pub so you can hear the music/noise a little bit, but it shut down at 11, so not a huge deal. If you go to bed super early, that may be something to consider. We had fish and chips for dinner at the restaurant and it was yummy, but what we really enjoyed was the sticky toffee pudding! As Americans, my husband and I had never tried it before but I am so glad we did! We still keep talking about it weeks later 🤤. We tried it at a different restaurant and it did not hold a candle to the George and Dragons. The included breakfast was also really tasty and had a nice set up of coffees, teas, and juices. Overall, we would recommend both as a place to stay and a place to eat.
Great two night stay at the George & Dragon! Warmly greeted on arrival, we stayed in the pheasant room which was a very well presented, clean and good sized room. Breakfast and evening meals were excellent and having a few drinks in front of the log burner was very nice! All staff were very friendly and helpful. Our stay couldn't have been any better.
We have visited here today and had the most spectacular roast! The service was incredible, the staff are so friendly and can’t do enough for you. The landlord, Ralph, made a special visit to our table to make sure everything was hunky dory and we ended up chatting for ages! We shall definitely be making another trip here… only next time, we’ll be booking a room to stay over night so we can drink some more of the delicious beer and wine! Thanks all!
