About us

In the heart of the stunning Yorkshire Dales National Park, on the edge of a pretty village, near the spectacular Aysgarth falls, the George & Dragon Inn has greeted travellers for nearly 300 years.

This 17th Century Coaching Inn is perfectly located for exploring Wensleydale and touring far and wide around the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

John and Collette will give you a warm welcome serving real local ales from the Black Sheep Brewery and Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company and fine wines from every corner of the globe.

Relax in front of a real log fire in the winter months, or amongst the flowers on the patio with summer views of Pen Hill.

Aysgarth is renowned for its breathtaking waterfalls, carved out by the River Ure on its descent to mid-Wensleydale. The Falls featured in the film Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. Car parking is available at the Yorkshire Dales National Park Information Centre, though it is only a ten minute walk from the George & Dragon Inn.

Dishes are freshly prepared by our head chef and his team using local suppliers and ingredients. Roast Nidderdale Chicken Breast with smoked Applewood Risotto and Escalope of Salmon, Crayfish Tail Creamed Potato with a Tomato Coulis are just some of the dishes from our extensive menu.

Very accommodating for both gluten free and dogs which met all our needs. Friendly atmosphere, delicious food. Will return when next in the area.

We were in the area for a family gathering and stayed here for 2 nights. We had a lovely time. The property is really old and is very quirky. I loved the rolltop bath, 4poster bed and gorgeous views from our bedroom. Dogs are not allowed in the dining room which seems very old fashioned and there is also no WiFi but apart from that lovely stay and weekend. Thanks for having us.

Popped in for evening meal as we were staying nearby. Had a 2 course meal and drinks. Food was lovely and freshly cooked.

My partner and I stayed here, and was greeted with what do you want by the old lady who was very rude instantly and not welcoming at all, booked deluxe room witch cost more and it was disgusting, bins wasn't emptied, hairs in the bed and pubic hairs on the floor in the bathroom, bath also had really big hole in it and cracked round the edges,so had to be put in premium room witch was also disgusting, towels were stained also, the premium room is meant to be at a lower price , but they still kept the money for the room they call the deluxe room ,didn't get compensated for any of it, after complaining there was an atmosphere after complaining, about the room, the food was greasy we paid for breakfast for 3nights and only had it ounce it was awful, and not locally sourced the premium room also was stained bedding, and also very poor quality, for cobwebs everwhere shower didn't work properly my partner has to do dyalasis and the lack of cleanliness of the room was just unacceptable so we definitely won't be returning, and the older women needs to retire, has she has no hospitality skills. At £120 a night we didn't have a nice time or experience there at all and we should of left, as soon as we got there I'm just to nice I didn't want to cause a problem for them, but they definitely caused one for us, money wasted

Stayed here for one night whilst walking the Herriot Way and had a nice relaxing stay. Room very comfortable with a decent ensuite shower, and good food and atmosphere in the evening. I went to bed before the pub closed but wasn't disturbed by noise at all. Breakfast service was a bit slow which may bother some, but I was in no rush.
