Staff working extremely hard when busy to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Servers were the perfect balance of being super attentive but not over the top and knew what they were doing. The Sunday roast was great every element nailed. Desserts and drinks all on point as well. Thank you for a lovely Sunday.
Good food but a bit disappointed overall on this return visit. Probably rating 3.5*. -Food is good (worthy of the Michelin listing), but the lamb rack portion is TINY (especially for £34+service (!)) -Service very average - could have been warmer and more knowledgeable. -Booths are way too small - it’s really, really cozy (with weird transparent panels behind you). The restaurant went a bit too far in maximizing capacity, making the dining experience uncomfortable.
I’ve been here four times since the pandemic and at different times of the year. The service here is so good. My waiter was a nice Brazilian guy called Phillippe who looked after us and was attentive throughout the meal. I had two courses. The beef tartare followed by the coq au vin. Both dishes were fantastic. As a main the chicken was falling off the bone and had that great balance of sweet and hearty juices. The other thing I love about this place are the cocktails. I had three or four which were delicious. From a wine perspective I’d like to see the Gavi by the glass but the selection is solid. It’s a place I can always take people to as it’s consistently good.
Booked The Garrison on a whim yesterday with 3 of my friends for this afternoon at 4pm. We arrived a little early and we were greeted with such warmth and kindness, it was so busy but they assured us they’d have our table ready shortly. Service was incredible, the staff were so friendly and happy to help and suggest. We had four of the most wonderful looking (and tasting) sunday dinners. Two friends had the pork, another had the chicken and I had the veggie option. All four were brilliant value, portions size and tase. The atmosphere was hustle and bustle but in the best way and we had the most wonderful afternoon- thankyou!
I recently revisited The Garrison, a place I hadn't been to in a while, located near my home. It has transformed into a fish specialty restaurant, offering both a lunch/dinner menu and a separate menu exclusively for fish dishes. I went there for lunch with my partner and a client. They both chose the posh fish and chips with mushy peas, which not only looked fantastic but also received their high praise. As for myself, I opted for the vegan choice, a delightful dish of squash on a bed of tomato lentils along with a vegan side of hispi cabbage. We all indulged in desserts afterwards which were lovely. The experience was overall very pleasing. The Garrison's interior, featuring a shabby chic style, seems to have remained unchanged for years, giving it a quaint and cozy ambiance. However, it's worth noting that some of the chairs are a tad uncomfortable, and a few seating areas feel somewhat cramped. The restaurant is dog friendly which is a plus for us.
