First time visiting rainy Rothesay . Had done a couple o pubs before hand and ended in the galatea . We had a great day as it was a pub day out . The pub was quiet and also had a live singer who was good . Was a nice pub . And we enjoyed our day . .

Best pub in Rothesay!! So many good memories there of my year and al half living in Bute. I always come back! Best beer in the isle too and the owners are amazing. Dog friendly ❤️

We were in here the first time for the Old Firm game. The service was fast and Staff are very friendly. We returned on another evening with our daughter and our son in law and found it to be a super wee place. It was spotless clean, the lager was fresh and crisp. We will be back the next time we visit the island. Highly recomended

Small old fashioned hostelry (which I like) but with more space inside than you'd expect judging by the entrance. And there is a pleasant beer garden upstairs on a sunny terrace with trestle tables and umbrellas to shade customers from the sun.... or let's face it, maybe the Rothesay rain! It's more or less just off the street High street at the corner of the wee square beside the castle. Behind Guildford square (pic 1) that's opposite the ferry terminal. Excellent value for drinks - I paid £3.90 for a pint of cider. Much needed after I'd climbed Barone hill behind Rothesay and come back past Loch Fad (around a mile away, see second pic) watching the pair of ospreys! A pint of cider in Edinburgh cost me £5.50 so there is a moral to this tale. OK, food isn't served and the beer garden isn't the nicest one I've seen, and that requires climbing a flight of stairs, but the vibe in the Galatea was quiet and old-fashioned in a good way. I reckon I'll be back next time. Good value for money.
