About us

Arriving at the Four Horseshoes in Chobham, a country pub that’s seen awards, acclaim and punters flock like birds coming home to roost since its major refurbishment back in 2013, you don’t expect to step into another world. That may seem like overstating things a little, but the pub we entered all but clobbers you (softly) with a wholly distinctive setting that wobbles happily between timeless, modern and all kinds of eclectic.

On the surface the place is countrified almost to the point of caricature, but a streak of contemporary playfulness runs through the pub that had me exploring as if I were a kid in a museum. A hobbit-hole of nooks and cosy corners, bumpkin touches abound amid a subtle smattering of quirk. Bowler hats hang from antlers, cabinets and dressing tables from a bygone age are illuminated by strings of antique lighting while the dining area segues from tea room to cottage pantry to 1940s living room in pleasingly odd fashion.

There’s a tangible ambience here too, from the happy chatter of the locals holding court by the bar to the laughter of visiting diners and the easy charm of the staff. That charm extends to the menu which also boasts no small amount of polish while still staying humble and hearty.

You’d be hard pressed to come across a snack with as much nostalgic clout as the insanely moreish Scotch eggs that come out of the Four Horseshoes’ kitchen. These golden coated meaty orbs packed herby pork and sweet black pudding around oozy egg to deliver a blissfully rustic hit. And they go further, with a diddy little pan of spot-on hollandaise. To order one of these to share would be a grievous mistake, trust me.

A very stylish pub, with great food and nice service. Have some outside seating area which is great for a sunny/warm day too. A great gem to enjoy a meal and some socializing.

Updated Review: This is a local favourite for our friends and family events. On our recent visit we were surprised how quiet the restaurant was and how the service level had dropped. It's a limited menu, but generally good quality food. On this occasion I was surprised how inexperienced the server was. She was very young, but she didn't seem to have received basic training and found it acceptable to leave all the main course cutlery (for 8 people) in a pile at the end of the table. Similarly with table water - leaving the jug on a table corner. Additionally the staff were hard to get their attention. I sitll like the place and it's a favourite of visiting American friends - but it needs to get back to past levels of service. Past Review: Enjoyable food, great service and a wonderful location.

Great food (evening meal) and very good attentive service. Food was of a high standard. Great sharing platters as a starter, good steaks, which is a sign of a good chef who knows what he’s doing in the kitchen. Lots of good vegetarian options too.

Delicious ⭐️ Super attentive staff; squeezed us in although it was super busy and we hadn’t booked - seems like it gets packed so best to book in advance. Food was great. They have the option to order smaller portions which is ideal if you’re like me and want a 3 course meal but can’t manage it all! Recommend the squid or pulled pork starters, and the sticky toffee pudding. The American pancakes were basic (shop bought?) Both mains were nice.

We booked a big table for 18 people and had a nice time. Service was cheery and very helpful. The building and tables are attractive and create a nice place to eat. Food and prices are what you would expect from a surrey gastropub (what that means depends on your wallet and food expectations!). Mains were generally good (excellent Yorkshire puddings) although some desserts could have been better (at least on this occasion). One quick tip, read the menu carefully as the veggie roast is the normal roast without the meat.
