The Fountain Hotel and Public Bar was built in the 17C as a Coaching Inn. It is in the centre of the busy market town of Hawes, which is situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Today and for the last 35 years the hotel has been owned by the McCarthy family. You will find Angus & Mandy along with their daughter, Kim who is in charge of the kitchen. Their son, Henry has now moved further afield, and is now a pilot second officer, but will also help out if home.

We ate here last Tuesday 16th January there wasn’t many places open in Hawes due to the snowy weather outside we was greeted with a warm welcome the lady behind the bar couldn’t do enough for us even asking me to bring our dog 🐶 in too the bar area was warm and the other guests seemed to be enjoying themselves we order small portion of lasagna and a steak and ale pie pretty basic food but very tasty at a reasonable cost
The best Fish & Chips! Such a nice pub with really friendly and welcoming staff. My partner had the fish and chips as a main and I had the smaller portion choice which was perfect! We really enjoyed it.
Nice pub with a great atmosphere. Went on two nights for a meal. The first meal was steak and ale pie. The pie crust was nice but the rest of it was like congealed jelly mince that didnt taste anything like steak and ale pie. My Partner had lasagne which she said it wasnt too bad. Giving it another go I ordered the lasagne which was ok, I have had better. I don't think we will be eating in there again. Chips are good. Not badly priced.
Lovely traditional pub, had a very good meal, reasonably priced. Staff very friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere.
Lovely place to stay. Warm friendly welcome. Rooms Lovely and clean and very comfortable bed. Good breakfast with excellent menu choice. Restaurant food for evening meal very good. Bar vibrant, warm and welcoming, with good choice of ales. Great location for walking, beautiful scenery. Staff were amazing, nothing too much trouble. Very accommodating and helpful as hubby had knee injury, they supplied ice packs and offered to get a doctor. Would highly recommend staying at the Fountain Hotel.
