Popped in for Sunday lunch while passing through Kendal. Choice of roast limited to lamb or beef. The meat (we got one of each) was a bit overcooked and not generous in portions but for the most part the dinner was tasty and the service was great considering we had not booked in advance. Price just under £40 with 2 soft drinks and only main course. Would return if back in the area.

Me and my family had our Christmas dinner in here, and it was amazing. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, big, juicy, and extremely tasty portions of food which you struggle to finish, but this is definitely a place for food lovers. It's the second time we are coming here, but not the last, that's for sure.

Unfortunately extremely disappointed with the food and the service here today. Took a long time for us to initially be served after being seated. We then ordered 4 roast dinners at £15.95 each, the meat (both lamb and beef) was poor quality, extremely chewy and couldn’t be cut. The roast potatoes were obviously reheated and hard. For the price that was paid the standard was extremely poor. There was also no horse radish for the beef roast, no rib eye steaks and no brandy in stock. Staff were pleasant but could perhaps exercise some common sense. I ordered a cider with my meal and was asked for ID. Whilst I appreciate that there are rules in place I am 29 years of age and was also sat with both my parents and my grandad. Even if I was below the age of 18, the law in the UK states that if you're 16 or 17 and accompanied by an adult, you can drink (but not buy) beer, wine or cider with a meal. Extremely disappointed particularly since this was a birthday meal and we had heard great things about the establishment. Wouldn’t recommend at all!

Came in on a wet and windy day, as a couple to get a quick pint. Lovely old history which the pub is proud of. Usual higher prices of todays hard hit pubs suffering under inflation etc, however, the pub design/decor was impeccable. Staff very friendly and personable. They were a highlight, professional, yet friendly, warm and funny. Sadly we didn't eat, but wish we did as we saw food being delivered on departure and it looked amazing! Only downside was that the toilets were in need of a deep clean. (Hoping it's cleaner usually). Overall, a solid pub that most should visit when in area.

We went for dinner on our way through town. We had a cheese and bacon burger and three items from the starters menu. The pork belly was excellent. The bread pots were not enticing. Had they been served with butter they might have been passable. The tempura cauliflower bites were too heavy for tempura, but they were still all right. The burger was fine, but could've done with a sauce. The restaurant seemed understaffed. Some of our issues with the food could've been improved but we hardly saw anyone who worked there while we ate. Overall just an underwhelming experience. On the bright side, they allow dogs and we met a very good boy sitting nearby.
