About us

The Plymouth Castle is said to date back to the fourteenth century. The pub does not disappoint on its historic character, it is furnished attractively, with an open fire, candlelit tables, comfortable seating and lots of cosy tables. We offer real ales, great value food and drink and aim for everyone to feel a part of our pub community.

The Fisherman’s Arms welcomes dogs, we even offer meals on the menu, for our canine visitors and have our own resident dog Mr Jones, a Miniature Schnauzer. He welcomes guests frequently and even has his own facebook page, he would particularly like to share any pictures of your dog in The Fisherman’s Arms. Mr Jones was privileged to launch his own beer in April 2016 and is delighted with the interest it has generated. You can try this Plymouth based, Summerskills Brewery pint in the Fishermans. This is what our local paper had to say “Grrrrreat! Plymouth brewery names beer after pub dog!”

Last year, we received a wonderful write up in Last year, we received a wonderful write up in The Plymouth Herald “Fisherman’s a proper country pub in the city” (3rd October 2015), along with some great photography! We are also delighted to have been ranked #5 in “What are the top ten best pubs in Plymouth?” in the Plymouth Herald ( 15th June 2015). Thanks to all your support on TripAdvisor. We welcome all feedback and hope that we will continue to offer a true local pub experience to all of our customers. For food opening times, please see our menu.

A little bit of public interest (our story in The Herald). We are ideally located above the historic Mayflower steps, a stones throw away from the Barbican and Plymouth Hoe promenade. For directions, please see our Contacts page.

Come and enjoy a friendly welcome, sample our local beers and good food, sit and relax by our open fire.

We look forward to welcoming you all to the Fisherman’s Arms soon.

What a cracking hidden away pub. Just visited New Year's eve during the day for a drink. Really enjoyable. Next time I"m in Plymouth, I will try the food because it looks great too.

Eaten here twice now, food well priced and quality good. Well decorated pub, good atmosphere and very busy. Huge spirit selection and good pint of red stripe.

Love it here... tucked away in a side street of the Barbican, quaint, but welcoming atmosphere. Came here today with my mum for lunch, mum had the steak, myself, the Fishermans Gumbo...... delicious. Great value for money, served by friendly attentive staff, will definitely be back for more ........ thank you.

This place is amazing. If you are looking for a homely kinda pub, then this is the place. The alcoholic drinks variety is outstanding. But the main choice for this pub is how DOG FRIENDLY they are. Your fur baby can get a proper dogs meal, along with yourself of course. Mine had the delightful sausage surprise and they even have an ale named after their dog Mr Jones. I highly recommended it to all.

Great pub, lovely atmosphere inside and the food is the best pub food I’ve had in Plymouth. There’s a nice range of beers (recommend you try the Mr Jones beer, named after the landlady’s dog), the pub is dog friendly, and the landlord and landlady are both dog lovers, with treats and water available from the bar. Much nicer venue than some others around the Barbican area. Calm atmosphere. Great place for a visit with friends. Will certainly be going back.
