Only 300 yards from both railway and bus stations, but up a steep incline. One of only three pubs with this name in the country, documents dating from 1868 show that this street-corner gem was once a fruit and veg shop. It is popular with locals and with those visitors who have discovered it. 400 yards from Whitby School and 200 from the shortest bus service in Britain. Tues is folk night, Wednesday is Quiz night, while on Fri live bands play. The pub supports darts and dominoes teams. No food, but one of Whitby`s finest fish and chip shops is directly opposite, as well as a highly acclaimed butchers. Eating your fish and chips in the pub`s garden is encouraged! Former GBG entry, but, sadly, at the time of writing no longer sells real ale.
Lovely local, very relaxing and 1st class barmaid. Gave me a glass after a discussion on it's origin. Will toast her and your bar with a tia maria on New Years Eve.

What an excellent little pub! Very friendly to a visitor. Sports on TVs. Comfortable and relaxed. Perfect boozer from my point of view.
Last day of Whitby folk week 2023. Friday 25th August. Place full of great musicians, happy lively atmosphere. Good beer too!!
Great find, off the beaten track. When I visited on Sunday 24 sep there were only five other people in. Friendly staff, comfy seats, great prices and no tourists. I had four pints and by the time I left one half of the pub was full of adults, kids and dogs. Will call again the next time I’m in Whitby, worth a visit.
