Nestled away in the quiet St James's lane, just under the Parkland Walk, is The Famous Royal Oak. A pub has stood on this site for over 200 years, serving the people of Muswell Hill and being a focal point for the local community. In an era when the traditional 'Local' is fast declining, we pride ourselves on being a family run pub, providing a warm welcome and friendly service.
Great pub, just off the beaten track in Muswell Hill. Nice atmosphere if you are looking for a drink and a chat with friends and family. Haven't sampled the food so can't comment on that.
Best Guinness I’ve ever had. Didn’t eat there , just went after bonfire night and drank. I started liking Guinness after coming to this place, but can never find another just like it! Need to come back again!
Not sure I'll ever have a better local than the Famous Royal Oak. Reasonable prices, friendly landlady, great atmosphere, all the sport you could watch. The food offerings are decent when they're available, but this is really a drinkers' pub and better for it. Long may it last.
The worst experience I've ever had in a pub. Most definitely not the experience I expected of a pub with such fantastic reviews. Instead of informing us that we were too loud, that the outside had shut due to curfew hours, we were forced back inside and then informed that we couldn't finish chatting. In an attempt to discuss this issue, I was ignored and, in the middle of discussion, was ignored and had the conversation cut short. There is always a discussion to be had, and a quiet and polite moment of information would have been readily accepted and understood, but is clearly lacking in this establishment. If you make sure you have a quiet conversation that assumes the managers wishes, this is the place for you. Otherwise, I'd advise attending Victoria Stakes for a happier and more enjoyable time. Very disappointed, having lived here all my life, of the customer service from a few of the staff members.
Superb pub, friendly staff and good priced quality beer. Always a pleasure to visit, just wish that I lived closer! Nice to see the polished brass.
