Food is great, staff are lovely, but oh dear the state of the place is awful. The carpets and chairs are really worn and soiled, paintwork is chipped and grubby. Husband said gents toilet was very poor and smelly. Such a shame when the carvery is so good and the waitresses are just lovely. A refurbishment is needed, and then there needs to be serious training of cleaning staff and a cleaning regime to keep it up to scratch. This could be an excellent venue but now needs much investment
Was seated straight away. But the waitress kept on walking passed to chat to someone she knew she even sat down and talked to them. She seemed to ignore us and walk passed. The carvery wasn't the best that we have had the server was sharp and rude. There was no turkey and when asked he told the there is no more turkey tonight but he can offer sausages. After choosing another meat and sitting down we saw that he then brought out a new turkey. This was unacceptable as obviously he know that there was one but he didn't no say that it will be 5 minutes if he did we would have waited.
Normally avoid Toby's as a rule due to negative previous experiences. However, was pleasantly surprised. Carvery was good and tasty. Food was decent quality and fresh veg that were properly cooked. Was decent quality and good value Only negatives being left to wait several minutes at carvery station as no one there and table service was very slow and a long wait. Would go again as good value for money
This is my first visit in a few years to the Toby Carvery in Runwell, and it didn't disappoint. The overall presentation and cleanliness was to a good standard. The only negative point was a plumbing issue in the men's toilet, resulting in a wet floor. I understand from another visitor that this isn't the first time he has witnessed this problem. Hopefully the issue will be rectified soon. My fellow guests and I dined reasonably early and so the various vegetables and meat selection was fresh. The parsnips were bland and roast potatoes were a little dry, however the latter is to be expected by nature of the self service style of this type of restaurant and the need to maintain hot food for guests. In terms of overall value for money, I rate the Toby Carvery experience highly, particularly during these turbulent times, where funds are tight for families on an average income. I would have no hesitation in visiting again with my family. Merry Christmas to all the hardworking staff that made our experience an enjoyable one!
What's not to love about a great piping hot carvery? 🤔 Nothing as long as it is hot 🔥, and cooked to perfection! Well this was mainly beautiful but as with all buffet self service things are a little hit and miss trying to keep things hot without overcooking... The roast potatoes were a little overcooked, with tough skins, and so was the Yorkshire with a very crispy outside that shattered when cut (I liked that). I thought you were supposed to peel potatoes before roasting? The inside was perfect but missed the mark on the roasted bit as they were tough! Beans looked wrinkled and old, carrot was as nature intended... dirty on the outside, so could have been cleaned better! Talking about cleaning... The table was sticky and so were the menus, and the salt shaker was damp and rusty... see photo. Pork, Gammon, turkey and beef was cooked beautifully. The cheesecake after was lovely according to the wife as she had that as a takeaway.
