About us

Ye Olde Cherry Tree is a historic public house. Once in a very rural location, where it fronted a large cherry orchard, it now sits on the outmost edge of the Harwich conurbation. That said the pub still feels like a village local and enjoys views of the surrounding farmland and the North Sea.

Like many such rural establishments the pub has had a bumpy ride over the last twenty years from winning multiple awards to closure and a very uncertain future. It is happily now back open and serving a selection of real ale and cider. Food is now available again after a kitchen refurbishment was completed.

The pub itself occupies a prominent position on the B1414 Harwich to Clacton road – on a bend and the junction with Rectory Road but you can easily drive past if you are approaching from the south. It has a useful car park just off Rectory Road and the pub itself has two doors leading into the main bar area. It is also on main bus routes to Colchester (104) and Clacton (3) and a number of local footpaths make it an ideal stop when walking in the area. It is advisable to phone the pub to confirm your arrangements when planning such a visit.

Inside the pub oozes character and you can easily imagine it packed with agricultural workers 200 years ago. The main restaurant is to the left and towards the rear of the pub where there is a door leading to the garden which features, of course, a large cherry tree.

Advertised opening times are 'until close' so may vary from those shown.
