Had heard that the mole trap had closed down again which is a shame. But I’m hoping that it will reopen again and go back to what it was with the old owners before it closed in 2018 or “19. When it reopened a couple of years ago, I was looking forward to going but was quite disappointed on my stop by for a quick drink. It had gone from a traditional pub to a gastropub and just gave a posh, stuck up Towie vibe only welcome to those who live in the luxury areas of Essex. Felt quite unfriendly, a group of people at the bar wouldn’t speak to you, and the person at the bar didn’t seem interested in what you were ordering. I’m sure the owners are decent people and meant no harm when running the place but it felt like the idea of a pub bringing a community together had gone from this place. I felt this was very disappointing because I feel like an area such as Tawney needs that. It is a very nice and peaceful area but it is very secluded and the problem with that is there are probably a lot of locals who are possibly elderly and live alone, and a drink and a chat with other locals is pretty much a sanctuary for those experiencing loneliness as it might be the only communication they have all day. I hope when and if it does reopen it goes back to what it was - a friendly and welcoming atmosphere with the locals brought together for a nice chat over a pint. Plus great fish n chips.

Incredible quaint little country pub! The service 10/10, and the food was exceptional! The vegan burger was well worth the drive. The best vegan burger ever( I’m not normally a fan of burgers) Highly rate the mole trap, amazing! Look forward to coming back.

Highly recommended! As soon as I walked in, I was welcomed by staff and given a menu. I obviously had to go for the Sunday roast! I was based outside in their garden and the food was delicious. It's the perfect hidden gem for a sunny day out.

Lovely atmosphere, food and such a cosy little pub. Sam was really helpful and made a fuss of our dog. After reading some of the horrible reviews left on here i felt it necessary to give 5* and support the new owners in their venture. But I honestly can't fault this quaint, cosy, Essex pub. Keep up the good work, we all can't wait to visit again soon.

Reopened under new management and a major refresh. Great place to eat on a summers day. Can highly recommend the mussels and chips or the garlic prawns on the main course and the cheesecake to follow. All washed down with good beer or a wide selection of wines. Great value.
