About us

The King's Head is one of the most ancient pubs in the county of Essex, with parts of the structure dating back nearly 450 years. The main building is a beautiful half wood construction which dates back to the 17th century, and was originally built using old ships' timbers.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Booked a table of 16 including children infants and dogs! We were given our own area which was completely relaxed and allowed plenty of space for the children to roam without getting in anyone else's way! The meal, atmosphere and service were all excellent and I'm sure we will be booking plenty more family meet ups here!! Highly recommend! Quality and price were great!

My wife and I visited the Kings Head yesterday, we had a 50% off main meals voucher so thought we would give it a go, dubious as we had read some bad reviews. We were greeted by a lady who made us feel welcome straight away. I have to say the food was amazing, I had Sausage and mash, my wife the Gammon….both were very nice, pub was cosy with real fires, the lady who greeted us ( Lou Lou) also served us …have to say what an asset to the kings head, we will be back. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Kings Head.

I stopped off here purely by chance having left the M11 motorway on my way up north. Having parked in the free car park I stooped under the door sill and checked at the bar if they were serving lunchtime food. They were! I went for the beef and wine puffed pastry pie served with spring onion mash, roasted carrots and peas. I washed this down with a pint of chilled Aspall's cider. I enjoyed this ad hoc lunch outside at the front in the sun. Apart from the noise of the main road this was a lovely place to rest on my long car journey. I read that the King's Head is one of the most ancient pubs in Essex, and a destination in its own right, with parts of the structure dating back 450 years. It was originally built using old ships' timbers. The service from behind the bar was warm and friendly. I would have loved to have stayed longer for a chat and try out some of their selection of beers. But I was driving and still had a long way to go. Shame. Maybe next time.

Visited The King’s Head for lunch last Saturday with my partner and youngest daughter. Despite there being only 3 other tables occupied, the service was extremely slow indeed. It took over an hour to receive our main course which, when you have a young child with you, makes this all the more unacceptable. The food itself was nicely presented and the flavours were good but it just didn’t make up for the poor service. Several times either myself or my partner had to go up to the bar to remind them of items that had been forgotten and to top it off, the waitress overcharged us by £30. This was rectified but again we had to wait for the manager to come over to do that. It’s lucky that you get 12 hours of free parking because you’d be hard pressed to avoid a ticket with anything less! All in all a mediocre experience. By all means pop in if you’re passing but do not travel out of your way and don’t bother at all if you’re hoping for a quick bite.
