About us

The original building was an inn that refreshed and accommodated pilgrims to the chapel dedicated to St. Thomas in 1221 travelling through Pilgrims Hatch. The Black Horse was built in around the 16th century as a small hall house, with a cross wing at the northern end, and a southern wing being added in the 17th century.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

Lovely traditional pub with good food, service, and also dog friendly. My whole family loves it here, and my dog tries to pull me in every time we're walking past. Lucky tp have a local pub like this in walking distance from our home.

What a superb waitress Large venue, nicely laid out and decorated. Staff are efficient and the food was delicious. Well presented food served in a reasonably timely manner. We enjoyed our food. Dessert of mulled fruit Eton mess was superb. Clean well prepared toilets

I wanted to leave a review about my experience at the restaurant. I booked a table at 7pm for a family of 4. We were seated on time, lovely cosy spot. Service was very prompt and very friendly. I had the sirloin steak with triple Cooked chips (highly recommend)….. followed by the Eton mess. I can honestly say the food was delicious and cooked beautifully. I would highly recommend the Black horse from the atmosphere, service and value.

A lovely pub restaurant. The food was great, and so was the service. The best part is that it's dog friendly.

Not often you want to leave a good feedback, but this place made me feel “I want to share my great experience!”. Great place in in and out. Cozy inside, comfortable seats outside with umbrella, which saved us from the sun and rain at later stages. Toilets are clean and smell nice. Food is delicious, every single meal we had was great! Awesome, attentive service! We were even given a refund for an error with starters, which didn’t bother us too much, but these people cared! This was simply unusual and evolves a lot of credit to those who run this place. Thank you guys! The best pub I’ve ever visited. Not long to be back :)
