Stopped in at the pub after visiting Ely Cathedral. Very nice, cozy atmosphere. Had the fish and chips and a pint of ale. Delicious!

We had a really nice stay at the hotel, nice room, friendly staff and good food in the restaurant. Only problem was parking, the small carpark only has 14 spaces so we drove round and did find a carpark a short walk from the hotel.

2 of us visited for lunch. We waited a very long time for a simple lunch, we were worried about our parking time, so I had to chase our food. I had soughdough bread with a tiny amount of brie cheese with a few scrapings of cooked pear topped with lots of pea shoots, it seems, to make it look like you have plenty in your plate. For £10 I had a thin slice of soughdough, small amount of brie, could hardly see it, could hardly see the flakes of cooked pear. In my view I expected 1 cooked pear cut into half, enough brie to satisfy. The description on the menu makes you believe this. I could have bought a whole pack of cheese or and 10 loaves of sourdough and a bag of pears for that price. The amount on my plate looked very sorry. I felt sick spending almost £10 for a thin slice of soughdough, the toppings were hardly there. My friend's tea in the teapot arrived cold, we complained and was told it was because they changed the water in the machine? We had the tea replaced with a hot one, though, but these things should be checked before sending to the table. I wasn't impressed this time. Prices are silly for the amount of food. I will not be eating there again. We were not happy with our lunch. Poor quality for the place it's in. Couldn't be bothered to complain as was too tired after it all and couldn't wait to leave.

Firstly, the positive. We have stayed here before and appreciate the location and the ambience. The dining room staff are friendly, polite and concerned to give the best service. The cleaning staff should also have a mention here; I found them cheerful and diligent - the rooms need updating and cannot be easy to keep clean. Negatives: the plumbing was in need of urgent attention in December, Greene King really need to spend some money. We were disappointed in the bar service on this occasion. One server complained loudly to a colleague she 'would get these glasses put away in a minute!' when I appeared at the bar and rolled her eyes when a further drink was added to the order, although I was the only customer at that time. In the evening I gave up waiting to be served as the barman was prioritising male customers, leaving me standing unattended for some time. Either that or I was invisible at 5' ll". There is a note in the rooms prompting residents to ring '0' if concerned about 'things that go bump in the night'. I rang after 11pm for some time, concerned about a prolonged heated argument on the premises outside reception. No-one answered. A fellow guest on the ground floor resolved the issue.

Fantastic location, everything was within walking distance. The food was excellent, and customer service was second to none throughout. Rooms were comfortable but really do need to be updated. That said, we would stay again. Well done everyone.
