Booked and had Christmas dinner. I had the traditional Christmas lunch. Turkey was dry and I had three sprouts. Yorkshire pudding was a bit burnt. Pudding was OK and the starters (prawn cocktail) was well presented. Husband enjoyed his starter and his cheesecake was very impressive. He had slow cooked beef. He said veg was overcooked. The room was a bit chilly. 40 minute delay between starters and main. We had to ask for the main twice
The worst Sunday dinner I’ve ever had in my life, genuinely. As a side note someone else that was in today has also left a review so we obviously were not the only ones that had a bad experience. We had beef (nothing else available) and when it came it was absolutely swimming in the ‘gravy’ which had oil sitting on top of it, and a pile of mash and mashed turnip which just looked like a pile of slop with lumps in (and also a lump of something black!?)Bizarrely there were herbs and pepper covering the whole plate round the outside of the gravy which made everything taste awful. The veg on the side was also swimming in something oily no idea what, the broccoli looked grey, I dared to try it and had to spit it out it was that disgusting, didn’t dare try the cabbage which looked like translucent mush. The ‘cauliflower cheese’….I’m so baffled what this actually was, it looked more like cauliflower wallpaper paste and tasted like it too, could not eat it at all. The meat was awful….chewy and hard. Two tiny measly roast potatoes. The Yorkshire pudding was ok but that’s literally the only positive. We were waiting quite a while and the pub was very run down inside too, looked shoddy and dirty. We complained and they didn’t charge for one meal but it really should have been both. Really bad, 0/10 do not recommend!!!!
Some of the items listed on the starter menu don't come with all the ingredients described. Also, had to go and find someone to ask for a spoon for the soup they'd just delivered to the table. Food service was also very slow. I didn't helps that it was my wife's birthday meal. That said, they did recognise their mistakes by removing a round of drinks from the bill and a nice ice cream surprise for my wife.
An old building, but nicely set out and cosy inside. 2 adults and 2 children, stayed overnight in a motorhome, before visiting Beamish, which is only 15 minute drive away. Meals took a while to be delivered to our table, but were good. Staff were friendly. Wouldn't think twice about visiting again
Excellent foods and very friendly staff. Good ambiance
