About us

Situated in the ancient burgh of Cumnock the hotel has played host to many colourful characters over the years. These include Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns who spent many a night at the old hotel bar, entertaining the locals. Sir Walter Scott, the poet and novelist who frequented the hotel in times gone by was quoted to say ‘Old Cumnock, where the beds are as hard as planks, sir’. How times have changed.

Lovely elegant hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. Our room was very comfortable and the hotel itself is beautifully fitted out. We had dinner and breakfast, both of which were excellent.

It was the Christmas party night but wasn't a party night as such. The meal was nice. The vegetables were hard and didn't finish until after 9 pm the staff were great and could handle any unruly people. They never did games or anything like that. The DJ was good, and so was the band. Dumfries arms is lovely inside.

Lovely looks recently refurbished hotel. Very young staff team could do with a bit more training / polish. Choice of beer very disappointing considering variety on market, lager, lager or lager. Christmas night venue was freezing, food was good, band was good but out of place at this event, DJ set was best at dinner, should have stuck with it for the evening. Good value, not sure we will return.

This hotel is an old one and the service is that too. The staff could not do enough for you. It was well heated, clean, and tidy. The food was first class and was served piping hot. The room was clean and tidy although some of the floor boards did creak. The lounge bar was comfortable and the prices were in line with a hotel of this standard. All in all I was delighted with my over night stay.

Delightful, modestly luxurious hotel in a beautiful old 18th century building in the centre of Cumnock. Good food, pleasant, cheerful service, very welcoming atmosphere. The room was comfortable and relatively quiet, despite being above the main street - and the bathroom was excellent! Recommended.
