About us

The Duke of York is so called because the hill we sit on is said to be the very hill up which the Grand Old Duke of York marched his 10,000 men, before marching them down again. This is a reference to the troop encampment located here in Napoleon's time to protect the coast.

A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

We came for Christmas Day lunch. It was a lovely experience, from start to finish. A lovely welcome on arrival, fantastic service throughout. The food was very good. I wouldn't say "brilliant", but certainly very good - especially for Christmas Day when they've got a lot to do! Well done to everyone there - it was an excellent visit.

Not good. For the higher price this was a terrible Sunday roast. The beef was completely tasteless and tough, roast potatoes had no potato inside just skins that had obviously been sat for hours and dehydrated. Broccoli wasn’t cooked, rock solid. No staff came over to check how our meals were, resulting in us going up to the bar to inform them. Really disappointing as have been to many other Vintage Inn pubs and been impressed every-time but this one is seriously letting the others down. Will not return

The Duke of York, what a lovely find just on the outskirts of Woodbridge, a gem that could be easily missed, worth calling in for a great selection of wines, fine ales coupled with a great menu and all wrapped up in a simply stunning old building, which is clearly lovingly cared for from décor to furnishings. Our visit was a light lunch, steak sandwich and fishfinger sandwich – the latter was whole fish, both with double cooked proper chips or fries if you prefer. Food was spot on and great value for the quality offered. Service was very friendly, kind and efficient, what more could you ask for in a great pub and restaurant.

We went for father's day dinner menu. The friendly staff welcomed us even slightly late arrival. The all foods were so delicious and great quality and volume for the price. We are totally stuffed by having own tasty dessert. Highly recommend.
