Licensed in 1767 and rebuilt in 1897. Now a small and popular pub with a U shaped counter, tucked away at the top end of Rathbone Street. Acquired by Greene King from Bass in 1993. Standing ledge outside for smokers. Upstairs bar can be used as a function room. Background music; quiz nights.
Made very welcome by staff and locals when they realised it was a trip down memory lane. This pub was the in place in late 50s early 60s frequented by beatniks, musicians etc many who went on to become well known stars. Also where I met my wife so special memories. Owners dog then was the hound in the film hound of the Baskervilles and and one bark from him(the dog) would clear the place at shut down but the owners drink up orders was nearly as scary
Duke of York always feels like home ! A truly British experience straight from the Fitzrovia heart! Cozy, staff brilliant, top notch Guinness !
Just had a pint here on a warm evening. The pub was busy but they were well staffed, with staff who were working hard. Enjoyed it.
The pub doesn't do food but it's like a country pub in the middle of Fitzrovia. And the bonus is lovely staff too. Highly recommend it.
A great Fitzrovia pub, tucked away on the corner of Rathbone street. A really fine atmosphere with friendly, efficient staff to help out with all your drinking needs! A good selection of beers, both cask and keg on offer. There is a super bar/dining room upstairs. Also wonderful portraits of Prince Andrew adorning the pub signs outside. A delightful pub for a visit.
