A large corner pub site. After being closed for most of 2017 the pub reopened in December, after a trademark Sam Smith's extensive refurb to return the pub to something like its former Victorian glory. Four "snugs" opening direct to the bar, have been re-installed in accordance with plans of 1886 (on display at the foot of the stairs). A first-floor lounge has also been inserted which will be largely food-led; and various staff bedrooms above.
Food was okay, nice authentic pub. But the service was awful! Didn’t help us, didn’t say a word actually. There was a sign saying to wait until you are seated by the staff. He didn’t come to assign us a table. He saw us, but ignored it. It was not busy at all! Multiple tables were empty! Cocktails on the card were not available at 19 ‘o clock. Didn’t stay longer then we had to and would never go back.
Great pub. Really cool atmosphere. We came here on NYE and had a BBQ-Cheese-Burger with chips and a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. One of the best burgers and chips I have eaten in London so far. The pudding was really tasty, too. Great beers to choose from. Super good service! Thanks for a great start of NYE! Happy new year to the team! We'll be back on our next trip to London!
Absolutely disgusting arrogant customer service. I ordered fish and chips, which cost £17 and the fish tasted watery and there was about 10 chips on my plate. When I asked if this could be improved I was told that the manager worked in the kitchen and that they said that was just the portion size. Nobody came to speak to me, check out the situation, or offer anything whatsoever. I will never eat here again and wouldn't recommend it at all.
Looking for a spot to eat, while enjoying with friends or with your lover? Go here, upstairs, you ll be comfy and be treated well. Trad fish and chips + beers = nice combo to end your day :)
The food was fantastic but they were a bit understaffed, while very friendly it was clear they were overwhelmed. I cannot recommend the Steak and Ale pie enough - I’ll be back just for that!
