Lovely pub, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere.
Clean place with all that you would need for a short stay. However it is located above a pub and was noisey until late! The massive bed was lovely but was disappointed when the mattresses separated during the night! Not a huge amount of shops so would have to travel to another town for super market or similar. Also the WiFi is rubbish!!
It's an old hotel, so do expect that facilities and rooms are ageing. Easy to walk from the hotel to everywhere in the village. Staff is extremely nice. Had to leave before breakfast time, so I got a package with tasty sandwiches and drinks in front of the door when I left. Will return for sure.
Beyond terrible meal. Having been here for 8 years on the trot, the food has always been acceptable pub grub. You get what you pay for, and it was fine in the past. Last year no food was served but menu back on this year. Something to do with the Galloway opening. Having had a McDownshire burger before I had a level of expectation of what would be served, and this was awful and was £10. There were 8 of us who ate and all meals were poor. We returned for drinks as there was no problem with that and there were 2 solo diners ate at the bar who both complained about their food and were refused refunds and challenged by the bartender who acknowledged the quality issue but said the owner wouldn't accept a refund. I guess that given it is for sale for £500k that they are putting 'food' on to increase the likelihood of getting it sold? They'd be best just not serving anything. You'd be best not chancing it. For a pint watching the football, with a game of pool listening to the jukebox, though it does the job!
Small hotel, very pleasant staff. Room small but had a king bed. Door frame to bathroom low and i caught my head on it once (am6'4") Very good value for money, breakfast excellent. Pub below served very good beer. Adjzcent room had a couple of dogs, so pet friendly.
