This award winning Inn is a lovely old Purbeck Stone building with beautiful views of the sea and Isle of Wight
The Bankes Arms Country Inn is situated at the start of the famous Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. It is an ideal base to begin exploring this area, being close to Studland's beautiful long sandy beaches with their swimming and water sports, the beginning of magnificent cliff top and coastal walks, and fantastic natural sites such as the RSPB's major reserve.
The Bankes Arms Country Inn is also the home of the Isle of Purbeck Brewery where we brew fine ales on the premises to add to our range of nine ales, all sourced from small independent breweries. Our landlord of 22 years is a fellow of the British Institute of Inn Keeping. Our bar has two log fires and is candlelit in the evenings giving it a warm atmosphere.
A wide range of bar meals are available all day during the summer - all served from fresh local produce and transformed into home-made specials. Seafood and Fish dishes are a speciality and we also have a varied vegetarian menu. We cater for parties large and small and our extensive gardens, overlooking the sea, are the perfect setting for eating al fresco.
For accommodation we have ten bedrooms, mostly ensuite and many with sea views. All have colour television and tea/coffee making facilities.
We are open all year, except Christmas Day, and have special out of season rates. We accept well behaved dogs.

Perfectly pleasant but the fish & chips were excessively greasy & unpleasant. Very little gluten-free options sadly. Come on! Nice location & the interior was very cosy.
I used to actively avoid this place as the food and service used to be so rubbish. But I’m so pleased I gave it a go a couple of months ago, and again today on a busy New Years Day lunchtime. The bar was well staffed and everyone was on the ball, friendly and helpful, good selection of light and main dishes for lunch, roaring fire, food that came out quickly that was well prepared and tasty. So glad this is now a lovely pub as well as a lovely location. Thanks!
Lovely place for walks on the beach and forest , then drink and food at this beautifully located pub. A good selection of craft beers and wines. The food was good but the prices were a bit high. Overall this is a great place for family and friends.
A cosy pub with an enormous open log fireplace. It was freezing outside whilst the pub itself was extremely warm. The bar tender was attentive and hospitable. The menu seemed nice but we did not stop for a meal. The pub was suitably kitted with high chairs for babies. The local beer was apparently very nice
The staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. The location was also very good, a short walk to South and Middle Studland Bay beaches, as well as Old Harry Rock and a nice loop around Ballard Down. The breakfast was very good, although the evening meals didn't match the same quality. There was a wide selection, although I felt the meals we ordered were just reheated, judging by how quickly they were served for what we ordered. The cutlery and crockery had seen better days. Some of the breakfast bowls had chips on them, and the cutlery was like you'd see in a school canteen. Overall, I really enjoyed the two nights I spent there and would happily go back again.
