Situated in the peaceful Dorset village of West Knighton near Dorchester, our English Heritage listed public house offers everyone a warm welcome. Why not pop in for a refreshing ale, a cup of coffee and a sandwich, or even a delicious pub lunch whilst enjoying a scenic country walk in the surrounding area? Alternatively, we serve full evening meals in our modern dining area, and our carvery is famous with the locals – we’d love to see you one Sunday.
We use the best ingredients from local suppliers to produce both seasonal fine-dining menus as well as offering good old-fashioned pub grub. And, having just undertaken an extensive refurbishment to create a bright and beautiful bar and restaurant, we’ve still retained the charm of a village inn – honouring our roots, which date back to 1851.

Went for a surprise meal with my parents. The staff were so accommodating. Mum was in a wheelchair and they moved heaven and earth (well tables and chairs) to ensure she was comfortable. Food was good quality and very reasonable. We booked to return during the busy Christmas period, and they were very helpful again, assisting in the choice of tables and the best place to sit taking her needs into consideration. Unfortunately we did not make it back, but we are looking forward to making a visit in the New Year 😀
I can't comment on the rooms as we only went for the Sunday carvery. The pub itself was Lovely. Very clean and tidy with lots of space around each table. The food was well cooked, hot and delicious just one little moan........I do like stuffing with my Pork 🥩
Located 5 minutes away from Dorchester and provides free parking. Flvery comfy rooms. Rooms are located above a restaurant which is mostly convenient.Nice breakfast with many options . Staff is great I can imagine it might get noisy sometimes as the restaurant has and outdoor sitting just under the rooms. We didn't experience it though. The rooms have no AC (a ventilator is provided). Shower head can benefit from a replacement.
The family suit was fantastic. Good shower and the amenities are first class. The staff is very welcoming and have a caring customer service attitude. Meal in the evening was of a very high standard and the breakfast was delicious. We try to come again.
Fantastic, rural Pub and Restaurant. Located in a little village it has a full on country feel but with the amazing staff putting on a brilliant service and outstanding food. Seating in the bar the main restaurant and the outside space which has amazing views. Plenty of parking so not an issue driving to them. I will definitely return. 👍
