The Dog is situated on the edge of Heighington Village. It is a traditional family country pub serving a carvery every sunday from 12 noon. We have a lovely outside area and beer garden with a children's play area.
We have camping facilities and a field which can be used for rallies or events.
We are 1.5 miles away from the affluent village of Heighington and also Walworth castle and Archers Ice Cream Parlour. There is plenty to do in the area, within a 15 mile radius of the pub is Kynren and Auckland Castle, Hartlepool Marina, Durham City, Middlesbrough, Barnard Castle, Richmond, Shildon Railway Museum and Darlington. There is even an Alpaca farm within walking distance.

Amazing family run pub on the way to Darlington along the West Auckland road. They do a really good Sunday carvery which is reasonably priced, unfortunately there's no dessert menu but Archers ice-cream parlour is just down the road if you need something sweet after your dinner! The pub can be a bit quiet at times but it's a nice stop if you're after a quick drink before hitting the road again. I highly recommend the Dog.
I was reminded of this pub after a conversation recently, my review is about an event quite some time ago. However doesn't change the fact that we had a fantastic night, quality food & beer & good prices was totally looked after by the people working there, met some awesome regulars & spent the night kipping out the back in a tent with my kids. On a random drive we found you by accident & ended up having a one night holiday that has stayed in my memory for years! 'Bout time a stumbled past again!!
Sunday carvery is delicious, and extremely good value. Lovely clean and tidy rustic pub, great service and charming hosts. Well worth a visit. Also dog friendly.
Absolutely not recommended! Andrew Garth and Steven Mitchell running Premier Building Northern Ltd sounded all professional and nothing would have made me think they would be one big con. We employed them to do damp proofing in our house as well as making brick work right on an outer wall as the water was coming in to the bedroom ceiling. They never did the wall just plastered over the wet area. They left our home in a bad state with plug sockets being smeared too with plaster so unusable now. Holes in the walls where they didnt even bother to plaster and the skirting boards where hacked off the walls and then just stuck back on with massive gaps between the walls and the board. The wooden floor was ruined and the wooden skirting never seen again. I guess they ended up in the bin. We are not even sure if the damp proofing was actually done. We didnt get a certificate when asking for it as promissed to us initially. They do not answer their emails or phone once finished with you. Avoid. Don't believe the good reviews like we did.
Fabulous honest Company. I'd had a quote of previous firm then Steven came and looked at the job he said it would cost next to nothing to put right. He came out of his way on a Saturday and was very pleasant and highly experienced! I would recommend Premier Builders to anyone
