Spacious but cosy. Traditional without having an overly local feel. We felt relaxed and welcome, and the food was good quality. Would go there again for a chill and chat. Nice pub.
We held our engagement party here on Saturday and had the most amazing day! We picked this venue as we had a few small children coming and wanted to make sure they'd be entertained. We were very lucky with the weather and the playground was brilliant for the kids and their parents. We had a buffet for 40 people and it was fab - there was something for everyone including vegetarians and gluten free. A lot of our guests were coming from city centre so they were delighted at the drinks being so reasonably priced! There was a band on at 8pm and we enjoyed chatting out the back while listening to them in the background (there is a review below mentioning this, which is quite harsh so I'd ignore that - it was 25 degrees so we were enjoying the last of the Summer heat, catching up with friends we've not seen in months!) Karen, the landlady, was great from day one, brilliant communication throughout and so friendly! Would 100% recommend this pub to anyone looking to host an event for friends and family :)
A Saturday night, about 20 people in.. Half watching a jazz band playing to their entourage, the rest were all out in back garden avoiding the jazz band . No atmosphere at all for a Saturday night which you would have thought would be a busy night.But. like the crown and the Duke along the A6 , the beer prices at the Dog are also much higher than elsewhere.... ironically, i visited all three of these pubs that evening and they were all lacking in atmosphere for a Saturday and don't encourage me to make them my go to places for weekend entertainment ....
Saw a good band, Dr Uke. Good to see live music. Robbies pub with Dizzy Blonde and Unicorn available. Friendly pub with a nice atmosphere. Be careful if you're parking though. For some reason you have to register your car reg to avoid a fine. Not the pubs fault but a bit sneaky of Robinson's to try and make money from unsuspecting drivers.
Just had a lovely family lunch here, I can highly recommend the fish and chips, although all the meals looked delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful, the pub is cosy with a great beer garden that has a selection of climbing frames for the kids. Would definitely recommend a visit.
