About us

Fully refurbished in 2011 by The Lewis Partnership, but honouring the work of the original architect Sir Guy Dawber. His architectural gem in the late Arts and Crafts style seems to have gone unnoticed by so many. We hope our project has done him justice.

The Dog and Doublet will again become the heart of many things in Sandon - we open earlier in the day for tea and coffee with a tasty cake perhaps. Home cooked food will be the base of our future business with any future business growth based around our business ethos of excellence in hospitality.

The bedrooms have now been refurbished giving the standard of accommodation expected by those visiting our wonderful area - we will have 2 singles and 9 double rooms of varying individual character.

Mother in law's favourite place. Main problem I have is that it is pretty much in the middle of nowhere and takes us around an hour to get to- I realise that the poor choice of location is not this businesses fault but it wouldn't be so bad if service and food was amazing. However,we always seem to have a lengthy wait even though table is booked and then when food comes at least 1 order is incorrect. This time 3 orders were incorrect so they did give us dessert for free (this was appreciated). However for just a country pub, I do feel cost of food is ok for what you get but do expect exceptional service for price. This place also does a children's menu but don't feel children are very welcome here.

We stayed here overnight and booked the NYE 3 course dinner. They were thrown a curveball on the day of a no-show gas delivery but the staff handled it excellently. The manager explained to everyone what was going on and offered a refund if people weren't happy with the situation. There were alternative dinner arrangements provided which were nice, and they were still able to offer vegan options. Will definitely try to come here again sometime!

Went yesterday for a family meal with our two dogs. Lovely cozy pub and Absolutely spoilt for choice on the menu and the food was excellent. The staff were very welcoming and helpful so much that we decided to book for the New Year’s Eve meal and band evening. We also booked a room which welcomes our furry friends. Looking forward to this evening and fingers crossed, we won’t be disappointed.

Lovely pub with a good selection of beers. I have only given four stars because we had the Christmas menu (we were part of a party), and I'm not a great fan of set menus. Will be back to try the regular menu in the new year.
