Horrible landlord in there. Doesn't know how to run a pub. He's rude . Wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy.

Probably one of the worst places I've stayed in! The only reason I stayed there was because I was walking the coast path and it was close to the Starcross ferry. The staff were indifferent, the room was terrible - I could feel the springs in the mattress, the loft hatch was open leaving a gaping hole in the ceiling. The lock latch was falling off the door and the furniture and decor were shabby to say the least. My view from the window was a roof and some scaffolding. The pub no longer does food, so it's a 15 minute walk to cockwood for an evening meal (Anchor Inn highly recommended). Nowhere for breakfast, except for the Spa shop next door who do breakfast baps. The only positives were that it was clean and it was quiet - probably because they had no customers!!! Avoid at all costs.

AVOID! Booked to stay here for a night and received a cancellation message an hour before arrival stating I was a no show.. I called to clarify what was going on and they had told me I had booked the night before in error. I went through my records and checked the confirmation email which stated I'd booked the correct night. I also still had the tab open on my phone, which confirmed this. I'd received no further confirmation/communication. Despite sending this to management, they denied it and claimed I'd made an adjustment after booking (room change and night change, no confirmation email to evidence this). Management said they would call back, refused refund and I eventually had to claim back through my bank after being ignored. Manager arrogant-told me I wouldn't get a charge back unless she authorises.. Junior staff very rude when calling also-would avoid! There are lots of lovely places to stay nearby! This is my first time leaving a negative review, but it is well deserved.

Location excellent, room not so much. Bed very uncomfortable all the same it had clean sheets. Asked about evening meals apparently they are having a refurb in the restaurant, maybe the same should be said about the rooms. A little time and effort good make a massive difference to anyone short break experience.

We got the ensuite room without a view for £140 for two nights. It's an inn run by a small group of people. The people were really nice, and they lent us some shampoo/conditioner for coloured hair because I forgot to take some with me! However, when I got in the shower we realised that the shampoo/shower gel bottle was empty. My partner ran down and got us some but the bottle was clearly labeled "Dove hand wash", and smells/feels like it too so it's not in a different bottle. The floor as you can see had loads of hair on it so I don't know when it was last hoovered which is a bit gross. When we woke up we realised that the inn didn't do any breakfast/lunch. They didn't serve food until 2pm so advised us to get something from the Spa very near by. The room that we were staying in had no door handle so every time we were closing the door we had to slam the door. Some of the other rooms had a handle I think our one was just broke. One of our keys didn't work - not sure if that was meant for the outer door? It would be helpful if it could be labeled because I had to try the door twice every time which was slightly annoying. The location was brilliant, literally a 3 minute walk (if even) from Starcross train station. It was a 5 minute drive to Powderham castle, however taxis were £35 one way as the they come from Exeter so it was just extortionate. So if you could drive you should probably drive! Overall it was a nice enough stay, lots of niggly bits however the staff were very friendly. It probably just needs a bit of a fix up and more attention to detail though.
