We ordered from the set menu and we were not disappointed! £25 for three courses and the food was delicious and fresh. The steak was cooked perfectly and the soup was delicious. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was very nice.
Nine cozy tables upstairs (and one booth, idk) with a full bar downstairs having high tops. The wait staff were the real gem here, I even added an extra £5 to the bill because they were simply outstanding. The food had good flavor however, for £21 I expect to get a decent portion of chicken and (no kidding) got the smallest chicken breast I have ever seen in my entire life. And it rested on a gigantic mound of bulger wheat, very much disproportionate. The smoked fish croquets had good flavor and the house made tartare sauce was not overwhelming. Also the Pilot draught beer was very cold and served in literally less than a minute from ordering. I would go back but just don’t order the chicken if you’re hungry.
A well situated restaurant offering a good variety of good food. It can be very busy so be prepared to wait for service. Food was good but portions were small in relation to their prices. Service was also very slow and sub par.
Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, service and managers were all nice. The menu looked amazing and came recommended from another friend that had visited. The food was ok. Pork belly seemed over cooked and was hard to cut with a knife, i understand it was fried but may have stayed in fryer too long. The charcuterie was good.
Best dining experience I had the entire time I was in Edinburgh. Wonderful, fresh, local ingredients to include the draft list, great service, beautiful rustic setting. I had the Pilot Melba sour, the haddock with chickpeas, and the AMAZING sticky toffee pudding. Not a gimmicky place—just a damn good restaurant.
