Pleasant pub, friendly people but limited choice of cider and no food for half the week. Despite advertising their signature dish all over the place.
Good fish n chips
Visited this pub regularly in the 60s, can remember a car on the flat roof and the beer was pumped out of miniature petrol pumps and a lot of motorists memorabilia and old photos of cars with a carpet with old types of cars woven into it. It was a great attraction in the 60s
I have previously reviewed this place as a traditional country pub, so this review is for the fish and chips shop attached. Great local fish and chips (burgers, sausages etc also on offer). They sell beer and wine to take away as well which is great if you don't have anything in and want a drink on a Friday night with your fish and chips.
I took my now wife on our first date, in 1970, to this pub Then it had a car theme The then landlord told me that he had the carpet specially woven with pictures of old cars I can't remember what it cost a square yard but it was a fortune.What a fantastic site it was when you walked into the pub (which had traffic lights on the entrance door) One room was decorated in an original Victorian theme. I was disappointed when I went back a few years ago to find everything had gone and it was now just a run of the mill pub. Whoever removed all the motoring stuff had no foresight.
