It’s an unspoken rule that all walks on Dartmoor must be marked with a hearty pub lunch and a local tipple and this 16th century inn, a short detour from some of the National Park’s best trails, ensures the long-held tradition continues.
Winter pursuits around nearby Lydford Gorge are rewarded at The Dartmoor Inn with seasonal classics such as Creedy Carver duck with creamy mash, forest-green kale and red wine jus (plus a cosy spot by the crackling open fire if you’re lucky).
In summer, it’s the offer of Jail Ale battered hake, triple cooked chips and a tall G&T that tempts passers-by off the path and onto the patio.

A superb treat for a birthday meal with family and friends. 8 of us had delicious food and all perfectly cooked and presented we couldn’t fault anything. We had a room to ourselves with a wonderful log fire. It’s a beautiful warm and welcoming pub with a great atmosphere. Hoping to be back soon.
Very interesting and well decorated Inn. Came here for a drink and sat at one of the little tables by the bar. Would definitely come back for food in the future, seems like the perfect place to visit if you as out and about in Dartmoor area
We stopped here for breakfast on our way home after a weeks holiday. It was lovely with generous amounts of food and it set us up for the drive home. Highly recommend!
I n c r e d i b l e food. Just lovely, easily the nicest fish dish I've ever had. We loved talking to one of the owners and learning how they set up the place and the care and attention that goes into it. Cannot recommend this place enough. Excellent food, excellent service and the in-laws paid for it.
Wow, what a find. I am local(ish) but stayed with friends travelling through overnight and we were blown away. The food is to die for, exquisite. Wine list imaginative and full and the staff so friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable, well-equipped and spotless. Cannot recommend highly enough.
