I spent 7 nights here while visiting Benbecula for work and given the remote location this hotel does its best to make you feel welcome. The rooms are decent and so is the food and the staff are super friendly and do their best to make you feel at home. A mobile cinema also set up in the carpark during my visit which is very handy for something to do in the evening.
Spent a couple of nights here in August (2023). Nice place and pleasant bedroom, helpful and friendly staff. Only one evening meal but two Scottish breakfasts: all nicely cooked. As good a location as you’re likely to find if you’re touring the southern Outer Hebridean islands. Happy to stay here again. Score based on its given Grade.
We visited twice on our recent holiday. We were staying at Otters edge campsite so it was an easy walk there and back. The first time we popped in for an afternoon drink with our dog. The welcome was great and the dog was fussed! We only had drinks but due to the fabulous welcome we went back for food. On the second occasion we had two dinners (again dog in tow). All the staff were lovely and the food was scrumptious. The pizza was clearly made in the kitchen, generous toppings and tasted fabulous. The pie, again homemade, was full of meat that had been cooked perfectly. All the facilities were clean, all the staff welcoming and there was a relaxed vibe. Thank you to all at the hotel
Went here to eat twice while on holiday in area and food was lovely both times. The first time Michaela the restaurant manager served us at lunch time and we had a good chat and catch up about her move from Glasgow to Uist and how she is now loving the peace and tranquility. She also has a great sense of humour and is such a credit to the Dark Island as we were laughing so much and that is so nice to go into as some places the staff cannot raise a smile. See you next year. Keep her on she is an asset to the hotel. X
Very disappointed in the food. We ordered two dishes, unfortunately one was so bad that we complained to the very helpful waiter. Unfortunately for us, apparently the chef refused to take anything off our bill, but instead offered us a drink or dessert free. We chose not to have either of these and we didn't want to stay anymore so we paid and left. I rarely advise people to avoid restaurants, however this is one of those rare occasions where I would advise you to avoid The Dark Island Hotel.
