Traditional country pub in the heart of the Lake District serving great British Food & award winning Ales and Wines
Cumbria is home to around forty independent breweries so you’re never going to be more than a stone’s throw from a decent pint of locally brewed real ale.
We made a decision to stick with our local ethos and choose our beers from within a twenty mile radius of the pub. Luckily for us (and you) this means some of the very best breweries – not just in the county, but in the country.
Coniston Brewing, Stringers, Ulverston Brewing, Cumbrian Legendary Ales, Barngates, Hawkshead and Tarn Hows breweries. This list includes CAMRA regional and national winners, as well as acclaimed Champion Beer of Britain recipients.
Our real ale selection is a regularly changing one but whenever you call in you’ll always be in good company.
All our wines are sourced and supplied by renowned wine merchants Frank Stainton of Kendal, and we’re also proud to serve award-winning teas and coffees from Farrers, the independent blenders and roasters also from Kendal.

I understand the staffing problems in The Lakes at the moment and food prices have had to rise because of this but to charge £5.20 for a small bowl of fries is astronomical. The pizza we had, however, was lovely and the staff are great especially the young lady who’s name I didn’t catch.
Really lovely pub, popular with the locals. Had great service food and beers. Kids meals are a bit pricey for what they were but guess it's a captive market. Would still go again though.
Just got back from a week staying in Satterthwaite and went to the pub most nights for a drink. Our dog Pero embarrassed himself but Bob the pub dog had a lot of fun with him. It was lovely to have a pub 2 minutes walk away and especially one that felt cozy. One note... They could make a fortune if they got some more quality scotch behind the bar, a lagavulin 16, Oban 14 or a Bowmore 15...
I had a steak pie which was absolutely delicious. There was a warm and friendly atmosphere in the pub, with some impromptu karaoke going on!
Perfect little pub with a lovely beer garden. Ideal after a day's walking, and very close to local campsites. Great beers, great pub food - EXCELLENT pie. Absolute must if you're in the area. Dog-friendly place too (and they have their own dog, Bob).
