About us

The Manor House, originally the big house of the hamlet, formally known as Bank House was purchased by Hartleys brewery in 1933. The building then changed its name to The Manor House and took over from the Black Lion Cottage over the road as the local hostelry.

The building has seen many changes over the years, but more so recently when we, the current owners, Leighann and Anthony, purchased the building in June 2017. We acquired the building from Robinson’s brewery and for the first time became a free house.

After undergoing a major refurbishment, we reopened in August 2017 with our daughter Emilli and close family friend Adam taking on the day to day management, together with our younger daughter Jaysley and other members of the family providing a helping hand. We truly are a family run business.

Oxen Park and the Manor House are situated in the south of the Lake District national park making it an ideal place for walkers and bikers, as well as people wishing to visit some of the many local tourist attractions. Just 7 miles down the road is the quaint market town of Ulverston, birth place of Stan Laurel and home of the Laurel and Hardy museum. A few miles further takes you to the South Lakes Animal park at Dalton or carry on to Barrow-in-Furness and visit the Dock Museum.

The Hamlet is also home to the Oxen Park Cinema Club, which shows films from September to April, some of which include supper at the Manor House first!

Closer attractions include Old Hall historic working farm, Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway, the Lakeland motor museum, and go ape and mountain biking in Grizedale forest.

With in a hour you can easily reach many other Lake District destinations such as Coniston, Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick to name but a few.

Cosy pub worth visiting but do book as does get busy. Hearty food - steak was well done but asked for medium rare but was rectified and manager was apologetic throughout our visit . Lots of parking on site.

Had a delightful experience at this restaurant! Enjoyed a bougie meal with a large group for a birthday and stag do. The staff were accommodating and brilliant. Personally tried the rabbit, Smash Burger, and sticky toffee pudding – all delicious. A great place for a memorable meal with friends!

The drive to get to this restaurant is absolutely incredible! You get to enjoy the countryside as you drive and this restaurant is tucked up on a country road. They do have a decent bit of parking behind the building, we parked on the side of the street as we didn’t originally see the parking until we got out of the car. The inside is extremely cozy and the service was excellent!! We both ordered Steak &Guinness pie and were impressed with the portion size, presentation, and taste! We would easily come back again! We didn’t feel rushed as we ate and we were able to enjoy our meal comfortably. I can’t wait to come back!!!

Great service and food. Everything we’ve had here was good but I really enjoyed my steak. They have kid’s menu and the selection is good. There is a wonderful atmosphere and huge parking so you don’t have to worry about it.

Amazing little spot off the beaten path. We [4 plus 3 dogs] stopped by for a late lunch and we were glas we did. Great selection of drinks and a well refined menu that did not disappoint on any of the three courses. Highly recommend the tiramisu, a great twist on the classic! Dog friendly which is massive bonus. Could recommend enough.
