About us

The Devonshire Hotel, historically one of the most popular pubs in Millom, It's been said, many years ago when the Iron Ore Mines were open, the men came up from the Ironworks and their first stop was the Devon as it’s known locally.

The barman was instructed to pull pints and line them up on the bar for the thirsty workers to down in one when they finished their shift.

To this day the Devon is still iconic, Emma Lupton and Partner Darren Minter took over the pub about over 3 years ago.

It has been totally renovated to create a trendy but personal environment which is going from strength to strength, this was shown when the Devon was awarded Furness Pub of the Season Autumn 2018.

The great thing about the Devon is that it tries to cater for everyone, live music, pub quiz, DJs, live sports, music from all ages.

If you ask the locals they feel like it’s one big happy family.

Emma and the team find it easy to create a warm welcoming atmosphere and at the end of the night it's difficult to leave. Excellent care is taking over their Real ales which people comment on constantly.

They also stock a huge range of great Gins along with many unusual types of spirits.

The pub provides lots of entertainment throughout the year mostly at weekends.

Disgusting. Paid for a triple room at a premium rate - staff was dismissive on check-in, hallways smelled of cigarettes, room was nowhere near as advertised - smelled like garbage, cigarettes and an incredibly uncomfortable Murphy bed (for $350…). Would not recommend - staff did not offer to refund our room or anything. We immediately booked a room at a nearby hotel and had a much better experience. Would give zero stars but not an option here.

Our first room had non-working air condition and WiFi. We managed to get a new room, no problem, but the wifi was still not working in room numer two. The rooms are modern, Nice, comfortable and it is nice to enjoy both water bottles and tea/Coffee during the evenings.

Great location, comfy and clean rooms - pros - Inbetween paddington and lancaster gate tubes so a good place to stay - Really comfy beds - spacious clean rooms -friendly staff (Anahi and Easternaa helped us check in and out and were lovely) -cons - we were put in a basement room without much natural light, i think personally if you are given a basement room this should be clear in the booking - check in is across the road at sister hotel, the is no signage so if we hadn't of asked someone we could of been delayed further.

Great location a few minutes walk from Kensington Gardens and some great English pubs. The surroundings are quiet, beds are comfortable, and the rooms are small which is London-typical. Strangely, the "lobby" is across the street in a different hotel. Very happy with it overall.

I basically became very cold and sleep deprived on my vacation because the vent pumped cold air, even when I set the temperature really high. I complained to the front desk that it was pumping cold air through the vent when I turned the temperature up, and they kept telling me they set the temperature to 27 degrees celsius, but the vent would always pump cold air no matter what. In total I think I went to the front desk four separate times over the span of two days, frustrated over the issue. It wasn't until the second day that one helpful employee came to the room, felt the air for himself, and then moved us to a separate room where the heater was working correctly. The second room was fine, but it didn't have a phone with a button to call the front desk unfortunately, so if I needed anything I had to get to the front desk. Other than my sleepless nights, I thought the rooms were fine: the TV worked, the showers were nice, the beds were nice. Some of the buttons obviously didn't work: like the AC or the button to heat the bathroom floor. I lost the energy to do a lot of things at night mostly because I had bad sleep here. If you don't mind the cold, you'll probably be fine here. If you're sensitive to the cold like me then this might not be the right option for you. For management: you might be able to solve the problem just by bringing a portable radiator into the rooms because the HVAC style heater doesn't really work that well for either of the two rooms that I stayed in.
