Formerly a ‘jack shop’, the New Union was established as an Inn in 1823 and is one of the oldest coaching houses in Kendal.
Owner Phil Walker took over the establishment in 2017, and since then the pub has become a real hub for the local community, hosting plenty of events with a friendly atmosphere.
The drinks offerings, in particular the beers and whiskies are a real passion, and this has resulted in the New Union winning regular CAMRA awards.

A very warm welcoming that had our favourite tipple & a most enjoyable genuinely talented band ' The Native Cult ' to add to the pleasure . Kendal was our preferred stop from the West Highlands
The New Union was brilliant. Atmosphere, service everything just fantastic. Wish I had a pub like this near me.
Really nice place. Far better inside than out. If you like whiskey this place has a great selection. Nice local ales on. Barman very friendly and knowledgeable.
Excellent atmosphere with live music and vast selection of whisky including those from the SMWS, certainly worth a visit.
Second to none selection of whisky in the North West, friendly and informative owner and staff. No wonder it’s won so many awards 👏
