Went recently, they claim to be dog friendly yet when me and my wife brought our dogs we got told to sit in one of their back rooms where we couldn’t even get a view of the act on that night. To add on top of that, the food wasn’t well prepared and the employees didn’t seem to care at all. They just wanted to take our money I believe. The location was lovely.
Lovely hotel which would have been amazing in its day, but these sized hotels are so costly to maintain but they appear to be doing a fairly good job . Staff are very friendly and helpful. The bar meals are excellent value and offer better vegetarian choices to the restaurant menu. Great stay overnight with the dog with plenty of choice for toilet walks. They're only really just off the M6 so an excellent stopover choice that we'll certainly do again. Thanks for a lovely stay!
We have stayed at the Cumbria Grand a couple of times now and we really love it. Perfect location, perfect for walks and plenty to do. They really do cater for children well too. Big garden, tennis court and play area with slide, swings and a climbing frame. Could the rooms do with being updated?….Yes…..but they are spacious and clean! My favourite thing about staying here is the friendliness of the staff. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. They really go above and beyond to make you feel as if nothing is a problem. Brilliant Breakfast….what more can I say?! Amazing Sunday roast! We can’t wait to come back!
Overall, this hotel is a good standard. It's decor is outdated and could do with a freshen up/ a little modernisation that is still in keeping with its period features. Our bed wasn't the comfiest, it was old and springy so even if the beds can't be replaced a mattress topper could help. However, the hotel is clean, has everything you need and the staff are very attentive and friendly. Overall, I would rate it 3 stars and for the price it is a good value for money.
Stayed here for a night on a recent trip to the lakes. It's overpriced for what you get and on top of that they charge £15 a night for a dog to stay in the room... I fully understand the cleaning rules associated with any messing but a nightly charge seems obsessive given the cost of the room originally. The room was tired and dated, the shelves in the bathroom were water blown, there were no other items than a shower and hair wash that came with warnings of charges if taken. The receptionist upon arrival was very unhelpful giving misinformation. The bar man was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The bar menu food was good, especially once we were advised where we could sit indoors with the dog which is not clearly signed. The breakfast was quite honestly a disappointment. We finally ate in the main dining room (sans dogo!) Which we'd heard so much about the views... of overgrown shrubbery, dated frayed furniture and the food... cheap sausages, very salty bacon and empty pots on the buffet. I'm actually shocked they get away with charging what they do for a room with no view, a dated bathroom and extra for a dog to stay when you've already paid a high price for a family room.
